My sequence is a 23.98 Uncompressed DL 444 RGB. I would totally use our SAN for this, but it’s SLOW! I can barely get 200MB/s out of it. I am using 3x 1TB drives striped to a RAID 0. I would like to upgrade my SAN though so I can handle 444 material.

Yes I have reference to both my Kona3, and the HDCAM-SR deck.

I noticed when I go into audio/video settings and go into “Device Control Presets” If I click on the default Preset called “AJA Kona3 23.98 Sony VTR B” The time source is “LTC” instead of “LTC + VITC” Is that weird? I will try changing that, and do a longer Pre-roll.

FYI, I just re-installed my ENTIRE system from scratch, and It did this again on me, after I output 10 tapes flawlessly with perfect timecode. 🙁

CPC folks have been very helpful so far, but we need to be able to capture dual link 444 and retain captioning data.

I saw that the K3 had analog outputs, but I assumed it was expensive. Of course AJA doesn’t have prices on their site. But I googled it later and found it. I’ll see if I have any sync issues with the Flying Cow before I invest in the K3.

If it makes you feel better, I googled AES to analog conversion and researched stuff for like 30 minutes before I even posted. But I don’t mind smart ass responses so post away.

Sorry I meant HDCAM-SR. I was referring to HD workflows in general, whatever their color space may be. I guess I could compare a couple still frames in Photoshop or something. I was just curious if anyone had any opinions or is using ProRes 444 in a broadcast environment. I have used ProRes HQ for a while now, but this is the first time I’ve had to deal with 444 material.

I am not doing any keying or compositing. Minor edits, then laying back to tape.

“This is a totally false assumption. FCP does indeed support 1080PsF 23.98 as do all of the Kona Products. ”

I meant for the use of CC. Of course 23.98PsF works fine otherwise.

    “single or dual link?”

Dual Link. I didn’t know you can even capture 444 single link.

“Where did the SR master come from and are you sure that the CC data is there ( is it on your scopes)”

They came from a post house. I am not sure since I don’t have any HD scopes (we are in the process of upgrading). But they tell me they are on there. For whatever that is worth.

“Yes but the CC info is not in the same place in HD as it is in SD, the CurrentKona Driver does have the ability to move the CCinfo to the proper location, but I prefer to do as part of the signal path and not as part of the capture.”

I believe I was told by AJA that CC info will be lost during any conversion. Also, Sony said today that a DigiBeta downconversion will not retain CC info.

I have read a lot of stuff on the CPC website. They have been the most knowledgeable and helpful so far.

I need some HD scopes and a monitor capable of displaying CC’s. But that won’t help me capture 444 material and creating a small quicktime for review.

Also, check out your signature. That discussion has been removed.

    Lucky me…

I found we had 2 Flying Cow converters laying around that do this exact thing. 1 more device I have to deal with now as If I don’t have enough equipment around me!

Thanks for the help, my boss got it working. I think it involved a deck reset, and a setting on the deck.
