Thank you so much for the info. Most of our footage that we will be upconverting will be from Mini DV. Would I need a converter for that? Or could I connect through firewire?

Also, how does “Print to Video” work when going back to SD? Would I still just print from my timeline through firewire to a mini dv tape? Or am I forced to use the output of the kona card.

    Sorry for the amateur questions!

Awesome. Is there a specific model you would recommend?

Thanks Shane! I appreciate the response. I work for a public school district where we do a lot of long performances. So I think this is a great option. Right now we have 1 16GB card which will be fine for our run and gun situations. I am going to give FS a try!!!

That’s what I figured. I will definitely take the laptop route!

Can I just import through FCP? That’s what I have been doing for now and it seems to work fine. Or do you recommend using a 3rd party software like ShotPut Pro to dump the footage off?

Awesome! I got it to work. But my HD footage seems to not look as good as it does in a 16:9 HD timeline… Any ideas?

Thank you Walter. DVD will be my final product. So if I render my HDV sequence to MPEG2 it automatically will do field conversion for me? So basically I won’t anything to worry about?

Also, now what about when I render a Blue Ray version of the project? Do i need to convert anything or is automatically done in compressor?

Thank you Arnie. The only reason I would consider shooting in SD is to keep the 4:3 aspect ratio consistent with my archival footage. Just so I would not have those black bars on either side of the 4:3 footage if I were shooting in HD or 16:9. Also just because of the “film” look that is delivered by the Panasonic DVX 100. That quality or tone if you would can’t be reproduced by the Sony HDR FX1.
