    Thanks Michael, I’ll try that!

Reason why I’m seeing it also has to do with the fact that my iMac is way to slow so sometimes I’m experiencing extreme lag. Then that green haze gets very noticeable. Less when the video is playing real time. I’ve got the shutter set @ 25fps now but I’ll try 1/50 to see that it does, also maybe 1/100. It’ll mean shallower depth of field so hopefully it doesn’t get too bad

    Thanks again!

    Hey Mark,

both RAM and SSD are user replaceable: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKUpU9UeUTk&feature=share&list=UUeUg1OF5WYp6JPJ15lZvthg&index=4

My guess is that the other components will be replaceable too but only in apple shop or specialized stores.

    But, I’m going with the 6 core, 32GB ram, 250GBSSD, D700.

The SSD will be only be my bootdrive so 250GB will be more than enough. All else: itunes, NI sample library, Sibelius sample library, logic& garage band loop n sample libraries, aperture libraries, all will go on external SSD or RAID.

6 Cores are enough for me, would have loved to get the 8 core but at €1500,- I think I could spend that money on other things where I will see a much larger difference in my workflow.

D700’s: at only €600 more compared to the D500’s I couldn’t let that go. FCPX will use a lot of the power of the D700’s and wirecast will also use them for encoding.

32GB RAM: I use about 14 now (out of 16) so I expect it’ll be enough.

Lastly: I’m not a pro like most here. Yes I earn my money with everything I do on that machine but my tasks are by far not as heavy as yours I reckon. Not going to be working in 4K soon and even if i would i think the 6 core will still do a pretty good job. Sure 8 is better but for me would be overkill.

I’m also guessing that most software companies will start to optimize their programs to utilize the dual GPU setups so that is where I think the real value for money will be. After all, Apple could have opted for a single GPU but dual CPU setup but they didn’t… Must have been for a reason.

    Hey Craig,

I use compound clips a lot, some get quite complex but I’ve never had any issues with them in the past year or so. You can get really creative with them, and i believe even have compound clips in compound clips. Never tried a compound clip in a multi-cam though(could also try other way around)

Since I have a very crappy iMac i do notice that using a lot of compound clips slow things down quite a bit but we’re talking about a late 2009 3.06ghz duo core here. I assume you have something substantially beefier than that so you should be more than fine. Even I can survive using proxies 🙂

  • Thanks! I’ll look into cc cloner then. I didn’t know doing a fresh install could actually cost me an extra license, ridiculous when you think of it really. I buy the software, shouldn’t that be enough?

  • Thanks Bob! I do a clean install every now and then but never thought of doing it this way. I would just format the drive and then use Time Machine…

my Tube will arrive in February (sigh) and your suggestion is exactly what i’ll be doing!

Exactly Marcus, this machine uses 8core,D700,and 64GB of RAM, the ssd is 1TB but that doesn’t really matter as they are using the G-raid to store the media.

🙂 Maybe you can put in a request if they can try just that.

Though I think what they did was not necessarily the limit for what that tower can do with FCPX and 4K. The video only shows what it can do and up to this point there are no limitations, but how far it can go is something we’ll have to find out I guess..

It’s strange indeed that after such a long time Final Cut Pro X is still not where it could/should be.

Perhaps all engineers that are working on FCPX have now started working on logic X? From what I’ve read here: https://www.gearslutz.com/board/logic-pro-x/892289-logic-pro-x-10-0-5-out-now.html
Logic seems to have gotten a massive update! (very happy about it but haven’t had time to play around with it)
