Will try. I have a 25-frames advantage in my case, but still it doesn’t look like a lot of fun.

you are really suspiciously close, but again I am in PAL.

I think I solve it. I dropped my file in QuickTime and than exported it with the same setting 48, 16 stereo, aif.
And it works!!!
How and why, this is clearly beyond me, but for the moment I am happy.

Of course, I checked and double checked it. 48, 16. I crashed my preferences, for the sake of the test. Nothing.
The length of the audio file is exactly the same when in the bin!
The moment I move it to sequence it shrinks.
In conjunction: the other thing that drives me nuts, is that I have this project on my laptop, but instead of edited sequence just one movie file. And it syncs perfectly with the mix.
Exactly the same setting on both laptop and MacPro.
I am going to bang my head against something very soon.

It was mixed as 25. And besides audio file does not have frame rate, does it?

Hi Don,

I played more with DVCPRO HD 720p time line in FCP 6 and got very convincing results. Interesting: no noticeable difference between sequences rendered in DVCPRO HD or appleprores 422. EX footage didn’t suffer any major loss either.
Bottom line: I think I found my workflow for this project.

Sounds reasonable. I even tried this approach and mixed SD and XDCAM footage in DVCPRO HD 720 sequence, rendered in AppleProRes422. SD looks great, XDCAM not so great. Maybe I did it a bit hastily.
But I keep thinking.
For the sake of argument, what if I finish everything as XDCAM, treat SD with Magic Bullet, as Noah advised, (my SD is mostly b/w grainy stuff anyway) print HD master and then downconvert to SD, say dub to DigiBeta. How my SD stuff will look? Any ideas?

Truly appreciate your input. This is a documentary, and I still thinking how to find the best way to marry nice and clean XDCAM footage with archival really old stuff. I sense a lot of practical wisdom (and brutal truth!) in your post. Thanks again.
