  • Why not preset the TC and take FCP out of the equation all together? Just a thought. Sounds like you’re working in the right direction.

Looks like a bad cable or connection. Does the preview look like that?

  • Is there a way to create internal black? On a standard digi-beta you can press and hold one of the input buttons for video and all three will light up, do the same for audio and you get black and silence. Preset your timecode and hit play/record.

I’ve used the deck your talking about for layoff but never to stripe tapes. It’s probably in the menu.

    Good luck.

Couldn’t you use the Log&Transfer tool that comes with FCP? We use Raylight, but when Raylight chokes on a card or file, as it inevitably does for whatever reason, it only takes a few more minutes to ingest through L&T. Between the two I’ve rarely missed a shot.

    Cheers,

Actually, not all mxf files are the same. The ones you’ve exported are not the same as P2 mxf files or any other for that matter. Why not capture straight to FCP or perhaps you could export the files in some other quicktime codec? Why mxf? Just curious.

Our EVS MediaXchange will most likely handle a cross conversion just fine. I’ve done a bit of research. Seems we’re getting a media management system from Ardendo. It has a newscutter component that you can use to make rough cuts with and then send to an Avid workstation, which is a kind of video editor. This is the reason it “likes” DNx145. Not for the media management per se but because their little editor only uses one format (still, kind of odd?)

Just to pile on…we’re getting lots of material from the big networks (mainly CBS and NBC) at DNx100. We asked them why not 145 and they said 100 was good enough. Nuff said.

    Dylan,
That’s exactly what I thought initially. I’m just going off of what I’ve been told by my boss about our new media asset management system. When I asked to double check he was very clear that the MAM would need a certain DNx bit rate (145Megs to be exact.) I’ll dig deeper into it and see what I can find.

    Arnie,
You are saying they sent me full-raster video encoded as DVCPROHD therefore it won’t play? So then my only option would have been to re-compress (or transcode, I’m not sure of the exact terminology here?) to some other format (as I’ve done) and lay that off?
