What’s the advantage of using AIC vs. Prores?

Its not clear to me from the Compressor settings whether AIC is a form of compression or just a way to make the file accessible across different applications.

Frankly, whether I do a Self Contained movie file based of FCP timeline, AIC, or ProRes, I want to be able to rename the files so I can tidy up the file structure as the working names P2 gives upon the ingest are a little chaotic for archival purposes. Just hoping to figure out how to achieve that with the minimum loss in quality.

And yeah, I am charging for data wrangling so I’m trying to do make sure I give em what they need.

You mean the MFX files?

My only concern with this is I won’t be able to organize the content as the working files are so archaic.

What is considered best practice when dealing with these sorts of issues.

So I’ve called and it turns out one set of editors will be using FCP and the other are a pair of producers who will be using Imovie.

For the FCP users – can I send a self contained quicktime reference file?

For the Imovie users what is the best way to deal with this?

I did read through the previous post regarding this topic. A few of them were from me. But I am still a little unclear about the best way to go about doing this.

In a previous post Michel mentioned using a flash/director app. Don’t want to open a can of worms here but its been a while since I’ve used either program and I’m reluctant to relearn Director as it seems to be on the way out. If Flash would allow me to create a data “dvd” without forcing users to download additional software, I’d prefer to us that.

Hence my questions regarding whether or not Flash can be set up on a DVD as as stand alone application a la Director’s Projector feature.

Yeah I saw your previous post a few years ago stating this was a bad idea. That’s why I’m looking at other options. I believe you mentioned something about PDFs in an Extras section as an alternative.

Can you point me towards a link or more info on what your talking about?

Let me make sure i understand you – and yes, i mean “Send To”

You’re saying that Motion will not respect the chroma key filer because it doesn’t have that specific type of chroma filter within Motion. Ergo, I should export a keyed out sequence in FCP as a Quicktime Ref file. Then open that file in Motion?

Should work, but I lose some flexibility by locking all my tracks down one when I export the FCP sequence. Still, seems like a better alternative then rekeying everything within Motion.
