  • My clients only want mp4 output for youtube. So there would be no need for a pro-camera. I shot the HMC150 (defualt settings) side by side with a Canon Vixia HFS100, and the Vixia did a better job (defualt settings) with low light and sharpness. So I plan to buy another Vixia for a side camera.
Just wondering if anyone has played with this years models.

Yes, you are right, 3 years is a long time and things change fast.
So take that part out of my post. 🙂
So it is good to see you would still buy this camera.

Can you expand and tell me what is “device explorer” and what does it do. This might be a pain, but what if you recorded and lets say you are close to the 26 minute mark, and you see a moment where you could stop recording and then start recording again. But then again for legal stuff, maybe you need everything there. Is this device explorer a perfect fix?

  • I think I am set with the HMC150,,
what tripod do you recommend, something that will turn nice but not super expensive.

And what should I get with my HMC150

    uv protection filter, anything else?

And is there a DVD or good book that comes with the camera to learn the setting, or is it just trial and error.
I have had the Canon GL-1 and canon Vixia, but this will be my first Pro camera. To tell you the truth, the Vixia shoots great videos, but the size of the camera looks small and the clients wonder if they can bring their family camera. I am hoping the quality of the video will be as good and better then the Canon Vixia HFS100.

thank you again, and I look forward to seeing more of your work.

  • Hi, I have a ton of questions to ask, but first off, this was very well done.
I have been thinking of getting a HMC150 for a few weeks now. But I never saw any true life vivid color videos. they all seemed dark. Your shots are wonderful and exactly what I want to get. The deatail , sound, and color very well done.
Are you still happy and would recommend the 150. For me, it comes out of our family pocket, but I hope to make money doing weddings and use it for a small jobs I do for the school. It will pay for itself in a a year, or less I hope. You mentioned lights. What type of lighting equipment should I get.
What program did you edit in? (I hope you don’t mind giving away trade secrets, I won’t tell anyone, plus I live in Minnesota. 🙂 ) What other problems did you come across with the HMC150 or in editing. I did read about the interview. I would have loved to see a making of your movie.
I will wait to hear back from you, but after seeing your footage, I am so excited to see the quality of the camera. If you could let me know your camera settings, that would be great. If you don’t want to give it away, I understand. But I want to redo a documentary of my dad being in the Korean War. thanks so much.

  • One more question. I will use the camera for weddings, educational, and corporate shots. We wanted to know if it would be good for filming a hunting show also?
    thanks.

  • Thanks for the reply, I might have to do that with a few.
I was just trying to go with special effect with videos, and track motion gave me the best control.

  • Hello
    Thank you for your answer.
I forgot to mention that I will buy a HD camera.
(I will spend up to 1500.00$, still deciding what to get)

What settings do cable TV shows want? I don’t have one yet, but what is the output setting for BlueRay? ??? X ???
I want to know this for also setting up my export option in my animations.

Just looking at the near future. Lots of issues, BlueRay, more widescreen TV on the market, all digital, and maybe next month something crazy new.

And I see most people in my area buying and renting regular DVD’s. They can’t affor the BlueRay yet, when they can go out and buy a DVD player for 35 dollars. Times are tough, so I wonder if that will keep it around longer

It all makes my head spin, because I plan to put a lot of time and effort into my show and videos, I want to be able to keep up with the new standards and market or at least have that knowledge and foresight. I don’t want to keep up with the Jones, just in the lower middle.

In your opinion, how long will good old 720X480 last?

I assume most now are shooting in HD and output in DVD and BlueRay?

  • Thank you so much for your input. You guys are the best. And help out the beginners very well.

I watched a video on youtube about a man saying for business and educational video the Hypercardiod Rode nt3 microphone is very good as a boom mic and for less than 200 dollars.
Anyone have any experience with this?

I am learning, but like with my shotgun mic and this mic, is it better to keep about 3 feet or so from the subject and just out of camera view? I will buy a microphone stand to hold the mic out of view and pointing toward the subject or hang it above the subjects. I will be creative with my cuts if the subject talks and does action.

I might get the zoom h2 to record ambient noise and maybe for other things.
I also own a Tascam US-122 for my Sennheiser ME 66. Would this be like the mixer you are talking about?

Is all this a good way to go? Or what would you recommend I might look at.

You have more experience than I do with sound. And thanks for your advice. I can’t afford a sound man or high end equipment, but in my heart I will work had to make what I have work to its best.

  • Ignore my first post, I think it was to confusing.

I have read a few reviews on the zoom h2. good and so so.
I saw a person on Youtube using it taped to a boom.

Would love to hear your experience on this.
How far away is to far to record 2 people talking with this unit?

Not looking for BlockBuster Movie sound. (not yet);)
But want something simular or better in audio when shows where recorded in the 70’s or 80’s.

I have between 200 to 400 for my budget. (please say 200) I am using a Canon Gl1 and will shoot actors (1,2 or 3) talking in a room with a 8 foot ceiling.

If you could give me a list of mics to research.
I already have a shotgun mic and lav.

I want the sound just good enough if some TV network or movie company wants to buy it.
after that then I can afford to upgrade.
    🙂
Thank you so much for your time.
