Unfortunately where I work has two SonyNX5U cameras that shoot in AVCHD so I am stuck with that format.
Hi,
So if I understand correctly, the benefit of using ClipWrap to convert to DNxHD QT’s is so I can batch import if the media gets deleted accidentaly? Are there any other benefits?
Right now I am transcoding and it seems to work with editing. I didn’t run into any problems until now when trying to batch import something that was deleted. Over the years I will accumulate a lot of footage that I need to keep, so having double the files will take up a lot of drive space, which if I understand is what this process would do? (although I am setting up a back up drive for each drive, which I guess in this case would have helped.)
Thanks for your advice,
Amy

Well, seems like this work around doesn’t work. Maybe be cause it is trying to import the AVCHD file instead of converting/transcoding it? I spent about 3 hours on the phone with Avid tec. support and this is the work around they suggested but now it doesn’t look like it is working. The file looks like it is there at first, but then goes off line. When I look in the Avid Media Tool, there is not a master clip for it, even though it goes through the import steps.
Beginning to think you can’t batch import transcoded AVCHD files?
By the way I transcoded them to DNxHD 145

So here is the work around I found. I go into the SD drive and click on the “private” file and “Show Package” until I see the .MTS files. I then copy the .MTS files to my desktop. Then when I go into batch import in Avid I can select them from my desktop.
I can’t seem to “show package” from the Batch import menu.
Am I correct in assuming this is what I have to do?
Thanks for your help,

September 24, 2013 at 3:49 pm in reply to: moving DNxHD files made in Sorenson Squeeze to the Avid MXF folderYes, I am on a mac, they are Pro Res and I am converting to DNX. I just tried an import and it seems to work. Is a “fast import” any different than going to import under File?
thanks!

September 23, 2013 at 2:07 pm in reply to: moving DNxHD files made in Sorenson Squeeze to the Avid MXF folderThanks, I will check out the books and maybe the tutorials. I have seen quite a few tutorials but have always been hesitant to spend the money and follow their lead, not knowing if it is actually a good way to work. But, if you guys recommend this particular one, it must be ok!

September 21, 2013 at 12:55 am in reply to: moving DNxHD files made in Sorenson Squeeze to the Avid MXF folderOk, thanks you have really bren a big help. Just one last question… how do you access your internal scopes in v7? Maybe it has changed and I just can’t find them, regardless of what the ted. guy said. (He said I would need symphony and they are no longer available in v7)
Thanks again and again!

September 20, 2013 at 11:45 pm in reply to: moving DNxHD files made in Sorenson Squeeze to the Avid MXF folderGreat, thanks. I will play with the source settings and see if I can make it work. Meanwhile, the video I already transcoded with Sorenson, I will drag and drop in a new numbered folder in the MXF folder.
Can you recommend a link where I can read about media management? I have researched a lot on line but so many people have very different ideas. EX naming MXF folders with words instead of numbers… how to keep projects organized etc.
Thanks again, you guys are great.
Oh, one more thing, I spoke with Avid tec and they told me MC 7 no longer has internal vector scopes. Can this be true?

September 20, 2013 at 6:36 pm in reply to: moving DNxHD files made in Sorenson Squeeze to the Avid MXF folderUpdated post… Ok, I found “source settings” when right clicking on the clip. Do you do this step to the linked clip before transcoding it? I don’t see gamma itself, but if I play with “GFX-Video Level” and put it on “Expand video levels to graphic levels” it seems to help a little. Is this what you were recommending?
Sorry, this is all new to me. I worked in MC for 15 years but the past 6 I had to use FCP. Now I am back to MC but never used AMA or cards, we used Beta back then. 🙂
So far I preferred Sorrenson because I could view the clips and set ins and outs. Seems like when I go to transcode in MC I can’t view them. Is this true or am I missing something?
However, I am afraid that media management might get messy if the media isn’t linked to the project.

September 20, 2013 at 4:43 pm in reply to: moving DNxHD files made in Sorenson Squeeze to the Avid MXF folderI did try transcoding in mc. But, for some reason the footage looked washed out, not enough contrast. When trying it in Sorensen and the bringing it into avid it looked fine? Sugestions?
