There’s a great (free!) generator available at http://www.lasserij.nl/fcp …I use it as standard now…

You can also drop some slug onto your top two layers – move one up and one down then lock the layers so they don’t get budged around by accident.

Sheer genius.

Used a combination of the above… Here’s how:

Export sequence as XML
Import sequence into XML2Text (www.spherico.com/filmtools/)
Export as STL File
Import as subtitle file in DVD Studio

Worked a treat!

One thing to note – your FCP sequence should have a starting timecode of 00:00:00:00, so it matches the clip in DVD Studio.

XML4Dailies looks like it should’ve done the trick. Got errors on export though.

XML2Text is pretty good though – managed to export to a nice spreadsheet so at least I’ve got a timecoded list with some of the extra data I need on it.

Yeah – I was hoping to burn a DVD for them to view… I’d heard that burning the clip names wasn’t possible – would be a nice feature!

That’s a nice tip for exporting the shot list though – it’s a good second-best.

Nope – just a straight Gang.

Is no one else seeing this behaviour?

Here’s a step-by-step:

Sequence in the canvas
Clip in the viewer
Select Gang from Viewer drop-down
Hit Play in the Viewer
Tap “i” to set an In Point

…and that’s where it jumps back to the original playhead position!

Any light to be shed on this???

Great suggestion – I tried it on a smaller batch of extra clips that needed doing…

Worked a treat.

Reconnecting the sequence to the offset media was a bit hairy (“Different Media Start and End” message), but if I ignored it, it reconnected fine.

The rushes were TK to two sets of tapes…

Final Grade to two Digis with TCs starting at 01:00:00:00 and 02:00:00:00, and matching Greenscreen pass starting at 11:00:00:00 and 12:00:00:00

So actually it’s a 10 hour offset. Ooops. Same principle, though.

I used the Nicely graded rushes for the offline, but need to do two onlines for each pass so the animator can get a key off the greenscreen pass and apply it to the nicely graded version.

In the end I took a different route… I match framed each clip and pasted them onto a higher layer, then deleted the lower layer with the collapsed multiclips on. Seems to have got Media Manager chugging along OK now.

Keyboard shortcuts (x, f, F10) meant it wasn’t too arduous.

Next problem though: It was a greenscreen shoot, and I’ve got two passes of the same footage – one with a final grade, and one with a grade to bring out the greens. The Green pass is offset by one hour. Do I have to manually alter the TC for each clip, or is there some way of capturing with an offset?!?

Last time I did this from Avid to FCP and did a Find/Replace on the EDL in TextEdit! Maybe I should do the same???
