I feel like an idiot. I just found a new screen on the camera (only when shooting in “Manual” mode) that allows me to shoot 24p or 30p in addition to the default modes. The screen was in a tabbed interface and was behind another tab. None of this was mentioned in the manual!

First, I want to thank all the people that replied to this post for the information provided.
Now I have a series of yes or no questions (but you can elaborate if desired):
1) Did all inexpensive, older consumer video cameras (before hi-def and 24p) shoot interlaced or progressive?
2) And did the inexpensive, older consumer video editing software have an option for interlaced vs deinterlaced?
3) I had a few video cameras years back (video tape) and don’t remember having an option to shoot or edit interlaced vs deinterlaced.
4) So I am curious about watching the videos that were edited back then on my (new, at the time) flat-panel computer monitor and on my old CRT TV.
5) I DO remember that the edited video looked better on the TV than on the flat-panel monitor (mainly color – not jaggies), but no one was talking about interlaced vs deinterlaced (or if they were, I didn’t hear them). I guess that the lower quality of the video and the TV’s and monitors back then is the reason.
6) And now, the MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION: My camera shoots “AVCHD MXP or FXP for better quality or LP for longer recording times” and “MP4 for smaller file sizes and faster uploads.” Are the FXP, LP, and MP4 modes interlaced or deinterlaced?

Wow! This is crazy!
So if I want everyone I know to have a good copy of my video I must:
Render a Master File copy for archive.
Render an SD copy for DVD players.
Render an HD copy for BR players.
Render an interlaced copy for those with old TV’s.
Render a deinterlaced copy for those with flat-panel TV’s.
Render a copy for Youtube.

Or, I guess I could just put it on Youtube and hope they all have Internet!

Because I don’t know what the “heck” I’m doing and I read elsewhere on the Internet that deinterlaced 60i movies look much better than the 60i movies that the Vixia spits out, so you should deinterlace it before editing it. I “assume” that if this is true, FCPX will deinterlace it for me. I’m asking because I want to know if it is true, and if so, does FCPX do it automatically.
