    Yes, I think it’s better to capture again from the tape. You can also try to convert your .M2T file into .MPG with a converter like Super(c) but can’t be sure about the output quality.

    VLC uses it’s own codecs, that’s why you can playback the entire clip without any problem.

    In Options/preferences/general, there are two switches;
    `Ignore third party DV codecs`
    `Use Microsoft DV codec`

    Experiment with them, it might work.

    If not, I suggest you ingest the video using Vegas Capture.
