Forgot to mention that Dreamworks uses DreamColor monitors as well – and I believe those were designed in cooperation with them.

Dreamworks uses a lot of HP Z-series systems. Not sure if any of them are used for video editing.
USA Special Operations Command, Public Affairs Office (Ft Bragg, NC) uses three HP Z800 systems with Adobe CS6 (configured and supported by us) for video editing.
Most of our other clients using HP Z-series machines for video editing are small businesses or single-person operations, and I’ll be happy to refer you to them.
Tom Daigon, a fellow cow, recently purchased a very nice HP Z820 as his main editing system (not from us), and as far as I know, is pretty happy with it.
I personally use my HP Z800 for light editing in Premiere Pro.

Is there any other way to get “pro” support (i.e. mission critical), but through a “pro” VAR? Well – that, and Cow. Far as I know, same goes for Avid, Sony and GV.

“What this is intending to communicate is simply that the experimental plug-in for CinemaDNG for Premiere Pro CS5.5 was removed from the Adobe Labs website. The CinemaDNG format continues to be an open format, and its development is not limited to Adobe.”
“One question that we’ve been seeing a lot–especially since the recent announcements of a couple of cameras–is why Premiere Pro doesn’t import CinemaDNG files. The answer is simply that we have not been satisfied with the performance that we have been able to achieve with CinemaDNG files in Premiere Pro, in which real-time playback is crucial. If it’s important to you that we add native import of CinemaDNG footage into Premiere Pro, please let us know with a feature request so that we can get a sense of whether this is an area where we need to put more effort. We really do value those feature requests.
In the meantime, of course, you can use After Effects to transcode your CinemaDNG footage to something that you can edit with in Premiere Pro.”

Don’t know if there is anything “standard” per se.
On a higher end, there are enterprise class SANs and NASs like EqualLogic that automate everything and make it a snap to do expand, migrate, replicate, do snap-shots, thin-provision, etc. Super-cool stuff for geeks. Expensive: $20-40K for a 24TB box, and that’s just to start with. Nearly infinitely expandable. While performance is limited to dual bonded 10GBe per box (I believe), there are things such as SSD-based caching that’re transparent to the application.
These things aren’t designed for video (i.e. sustained throughput) but for enterprise IT, i.e. it’s all about latencies and transactions per second.
On the lower end you have to choose performance vs. convenience and automation. Performance-wise, nothing beats DAS (SAS 6G with a good RAID controller, specifically); has decent expandability features whereas you can add more boxes and expand existing volumes without any downtime. Attach it to a server and share.
For convenience (on the low end), it’s NASs like QNAP and Synology. Performance is not scalable and is limited to line speeds on available ports; expandability via USB or eSATA ports; some may offer replication.
Lastly, there are performance-oriented video-specific NASs such as Space from GB-Labs that can achieve pretty remarkable feats in terms per-port and aggregate throughput up 700MB/s on up to 10 ports with 10GbE, They start at about $20K.
