  • Hi Rob

Thanks for the advice. The canon 70d actually has got amazing autofocus capabilities, unlike any dslr in the past, wchi I know can jump around all over the place. But as I said I am able to focus manually too.

So I am wondering more about the other settings that i would like to keep on auto, apeture, shutter speed, iso. I understand how these work for stills, but not really for video.

  • Hi

Thanks for the tips. I think I will use 1080 as 720 has very bad aliasing

I just have so little time and am doing this for a friend. Ive never used the camera before and while Ive made videos, I dont really know how to use cameras in depth. I will be filming lots of kids playing and doing activities, its going to be very hard to be playing with settings as I just need to capture everything. Do you think auto will be that bad?

On the 70d, it seems even in auto you can manually focus and you can use the touchscreen to decide what you focus on.

Also, some of the time I will want it to autofocus, but sometimes I just want to focus on something and then hit record and it to stay focussed at that distance. Is the best way to do this just to press the screen so it focusses on what I want, then turn it to Manual Focus on the switch on the lens?

    Hi Grazie

I have no doubt its my computer, as I know my cpu is working super high when rendering! But surely it shoudnt crash, it should tell me! Anyways…

    1] What is your Media?

    720p 50 fps AVCHD

2] What is your Project Settings?

there are many settings here, but i have them set to the same as my footage, 1280 x 720, progressive. the only strange thing, is I have the frame rate set to 25 fps here. Is that right? Or should I have it set to 25fps just at the render? I dont want to render at 50 fps…I did read a whole thread on this but cant find it! I have full resolution wuality set to : best

3] What are you render template are you rendering to?

Im using .mp4 720 internet, but I change the fps to 25

4] What are the specs on your machine?

I have an i7 2.6ghz cpu, 4gb ram. I have the project on my hdd, but I could move it to my ssd, but also read that wouldnt make much of a difference.

And I should I have ‘use gpu for render’ on or off in the settings?

Its so frustrating as Im so close and it was rendering before. As I said it seems to be adding this one effect that tips it over. But the next step is to go through and add effects to individual clips which could tip it over the edge. Any suggestions for work arounds appreciated….as I asked before, what format would you render as if you wanted to re import it and carry on editing?

    Thanks for your help

  • Hey guys

Thanks for the help, its been really useful! I will see how I get on with these ideas

    thankyou

  • Hi Norman

Thankyou for your help. I have a folder with hundreds of 10 second clips in. If I was to convert all of these to a new format, such as the one you recommended : XDCAM format, then is there an easy way to do this as a batch?

Also, would XDcam in mpeg or mxf be better?

Thanks again for all your help

    Hi

Thanks, I didnt realise that. But if I am rendering it, is it normal to have 50fps for the final renderr, or for uploading to youtube, or would I be better putting it at 25fps?
