Check your manual. I shoot 1080p in 4:2:2 all the time at 30p and 24p. You’ll get an extra stop or so of light by dropping down to those frame rates. might help you with your need for more light.

I have done tons of DVDs using 1080p. Never had an issue. Always looked great especially on computers. I can’t help you out since I have never shot 1080i.

Yes, the CCDs were nice. Odd that you find 1080i better.

Vincent, I own an upgraded C100 but shoot long form video of concerts. Each concert is over an hour long. I’ve never had a problem with audio not lining up. I just lay the video end to end in Premiere and the audio from the camera is in sync. I am recording in AVCHD so not sure that perhaps there may be a problem with shooting in MP4, but that doesn’t seem likely.

Have you tried shooting in AVCHD and see if the same problem happens? Are you sure that your Pr sequence matches your footage?

Hope this helps. I notice that no one has commented on this since May 8. thought I’d give something to think about.

Out of curiosity. Why are you shooting in 1080i? Have you done any testing with shooting the same footage in both 1080p and 1080i to see if the interlacing is somehow affecting your shot when panning? You also don’t mention what shutter speed you are setting. For example, if you were shooting from an airplane you would want a much faster shutter speed, perhaps 60p to help reduce shake.

Also, the manual has some clarification on IS types . see page 62

Yep. I can understand your feelings. The C100 is very nice to shoot with. Certainly the auto focus on the GH5 is better than the GH3, but Canon does a great job with it on the C100. The form factor of the C100 (and most camcorders) is much easier to use than a DSLR. But to be clear, the GH5 has an incredible array of features not on the GH3. Much more like a C100. I’ll have to see, I might decide to sell my C100 (with the autofocus upgrade). I’ll let you know if I do. Probably come in less than $2000 for the body.

  • I don’t know if that is what the OP is asking, but I agree with you. I put everything in one master folder for the project, including project documentation, billing etc. All original footage, audio, Adobe Pr files, etc. That way I know that when I move it it all goes together.

The OP seemed to be asking about the default locations of the Adobe program files themselves. As I’ve just found out, the media cache is many times put on a separate SSD drive for speed. All on it’s own. We just saw what happened when you stuck it in the same folder as the media, as 11.1 (not 11.1.1.) deleted it and the media for many users.

I just leave it alone on my SSD C drive.

Just to be clear, there is no reason a “camera” can’t be an HDMI feed from a computer. It’s just an HDMI signal. No reason to get hung up on what the HDMI signal comes from. It may be that the “switcher” you are using isn’t sophisticated enough to hold the mac signal when you switch from it to the other source.

So if I understand you right, Blackmagic makes devices that do that. I routinely broadcast multiple HDMI or SDI feeds into a BM production switcher, that feeds the chosen camera into a Teranex box that converts the signal to a Thunderbolt feed into the Mac. From there I use Wirecast to feed multiple outputs. That’s the setup for 3 or more cameras. BM also has just brought out a new device that feeds one HDMI feed and one SDI feed into a switcher unit. No experience yet with that, and some reviews on B&H are not flattering. But I don’t think you can do what you are wanting to do. Maybe I just don’t understand your requirements.

Walter, I assume you are using Techsoup to purchase your software? It allows you to purchase modern software at greatly reduced prices. If you are not aware of it, you should fill out the paperwork and get setup. It will help you stay current at an affordable price. https://www.techsoup.org/

Beyond that, John’s advice is spot on.

I have not bought a new computer for some time, as ebay allows you to find good values used.

The changeover from Rosetta to a purely 64bit system has been much better for things like memory use. As we move into 4k more and more, the need for RAM is great. My perfectly working 32GB 1080p editing machine is crashing on 4K footage. I could choose to not shoot 4k or look for a new machine (or software) that can handle it.

One thing I would be concerned about, and you might want to investigate is compatability between versions. I assume that now and into the future your creations will be able to be opened by newer versions of Photoshop. But I also know that my mother in law wrote a book on Pagemaker in the 90s, and there is no way I can open it anymore on any modern version of Pagemaker. We had to look into rewriting the whole thing. Just words to the wise. They don’t always maintain backwards compatability forever.

    good luck!

May 6, 2017 at 4:43 pm in reply to: 4K Playback – Is my system to weak?

That is a very old machine by today’s standards. I have an iMac from 2014 and while it runs 2k footage great, it chokes on 4k. I like the idea of transcoding. That makes sense. I’ll try it and see if it helps Probably time for a computer upgrade but I’ll start with SSD drives in the Raid bay too.
