Understood. Mine is the same. Only think to consider is adding RAM to the base. With that much space left on the SSD you should be fine.

Before you spend a huge amount of time transcoding everything you shoot (which I rarely do), we haven’t asked a few basic questions.
What is the graphics card on that iMac? How much RAM does it have?
Have you checked using the Apple tool Activity monitor to make sure you aren’t running out of RAM? I’ve long ago had to upgrade to a minimum of 16 to effectively run CC.
I’m also curious about your choice of an SSD for external storage and whether it might be close to full. If you aren’t aware of the limitations of SSDs, especially as they fill up, you should do a search on it. They are usually better for read conditions, like a primary drive with more static applications, than ever changing data. Not saying it might not be AVCHD, but there are a few things to suspect first.I usually use AVCHD on my C100 and there is nothing that my iMac can’t handle quite well. I have 2 GBs of video ram, 32GBs of system RAM and an very fast RAID 5 external non SSD as the work drive.

Just did a quick read of the manual, and yes, the line in is meant only for microphones, not a true line in. I would recommend buying a better tool for the job you want to do. High quality recorders are very cheap these days. I was not happy with the H4N for the same reason, in that the line in needed padding. The H5 and Marantz have never needed one. (though I’m sure there’s some situation that might warrant it).

I do a lot of ‘off the board’ recording and have never had a problem. I would assume it’s your H2N. I recently used a H5 (which is nice!) and ran two XLRs from a line board out feed, and had to lower the dB about 10%. If you are looking for a good recorder for board feeds, it’s been my experience that Zoom pre’s are a bit harsh. I tend to go with my PMD661 Marantz. It has the most neutral sound. No harshness at all. Just sayin’ in case you are looking for a new recorder.

Without getting into any depth here, the white balancing and picture matching is going to be a bit tough with those cameras, because the sensors are very different. My experience at trying to match non 300s (C100 and others) is that the 300 has a different color hue to it, more to the pink and others can be very neutral. I would go to the stage you mainly will be using (or the stage for the evening) and look at the stage lighting as well as bring one of each camera.Be sure to use the scopes to get the gray balance in the xf300 dead center. Use a gray card to do that.
Then dial in the Kelvin to match on the other cameras, if they can. If I had one feature add to any other camera it’s that polar scope. It’s the most useful tool I have to get color balanced. When I first set it up I was seeing a small flare in the xf300 white balance. Fixing that was very important.Best of luck.

Just as an alternative, make sure you aren’t running out of RAM. I found that if I watched my processes while I work, and while something is being rendered, you can see if you start to get dangerously close to maximum RAM. When that happens, I’ve had the machine reboot. While 24 GBs should be ok, with 4K processing and multicam, along with graphics intensive work you might use that much. It’s certainly a cheaper fix than redoing the OS.
By the way, check to make sure you are really on the current version of CUDA drivers. There has been a new update since January, I can’t remember what is the number, but go to Nvidia and check. That fixed some issues I was having on an iMac running 10.10.5.

I haven’t recently seen a test (did you search Youtube?) but I’ve owned both cameras, and felt that the audio into the 5D mkii was superior. As an example, this is recorded with a relatively lower end lav directly into the 5d. I think the sound is fine. Your results may vary based on room, etc.

The upgrade of both RAM and the move to the latest CUDA driver appears to have stabilized the machine. Worth noting.
