Thanks Glenn,
the really strange thing is the footage (which was originally from a Canon XF305) was “imported” into Avid… ie it has been re encoded as DNxHD… in which case when I output a QT ref it’s not actually converting from XDCam (is it?? have I got that wrong??) I didn’t bring the original footage into the project at all so I don’t see why calibrated Q is needed … -
Has nobody else noticed this ??

Thanks .. I know that makes sense but prior to MC6 my online stuff looked fine straight out of the laptop (No online/QC to worry about) .. I wondered if the Power management brightening the screen was something other people had noticed….

Hi Peter,
I first attempted to edit using “link to AMA” and soon learnt my lesson … (I also have premier pro which does this no problem!)
I now just import clips at DNxHD 175 because anything else is just a nightmare… do you shoot at 23.976 ?? -
That’s great, thanks Michael, thought the convert at the last stage would be best option…. FYI re the “Unable to provide sample” error, I’ve decided to just import at DNxHD 175 and have a lot of drive used up .. I have about 4 hours of footage and about 1.7 TBs of drive… that should use approx 200 GBs ??

Brilliant thanks guys …
how does the subclip part work tho?
Don’t you need to have started your edit in order to subclip it? in which case you’re editing directly with AMA? -
Ok thanks..
Still not sure I understand ..
do you cut and then transcode like a consolidation? That can’t be right cos my avid is running super slow trying to edit AVCHD… if you’re bringing in ALL rushes as DNxHD why not just import?
If you subclip can you just bring in the footage you want to use (I’d read you couldn’t do that with file based systems).. Transcode just the selects (is that a transcode option) .. If I read that right then as you say the outcome is the same but it’s much quicker actually getting the DNxHD version in the computer?
Have I understood that correctly? -
Thats great thanks I’ll check out the video co pilot stuff and try some of your suggestions … Please do keep ’em coming as I have lot of stills over next few months!
Thanks again

July 28, 2012 at 11:40 am in reply to: How do I sync sound from two cameras then edit in new sequence? That’s pants! firstly according to Adobe TV you really don’t need to transcode unless you’re sharing footage between systems, secondly it’s a pretty basic requirement for many editing situations … I moved across from Media Composer because of the after effects integration (and soundbooth) which are fantastic .. but having moved into DSLR shooting recently it’s a major pain… I’m making a show that has many short edits (kids answers to funny questions which appear as a graphic before the answers)some of the funniest answers are literally just “uummm” … do I have to synch up the fine cut rather than the rushes? will even pluraleyes be able to do this? there must be a workaround apart from outputting a QT submaster (will I lose quality?? final destination web and poss DVD)
Any suggestions welcome (apart from upgrading to CS6 which I may do when I get paid for this job!)
thanks !!Alan
