beyond old hat on this, but pretty much everything you walk into that isn’t broadcast is turning into PPro now – and viacom and disney locally are implementing PPro and CC across the board – disney is well in with AE for endboards and branding as you know there walter. and BBC WW going there too?
I’d say this – a lot of editors out there are very well disposed to ppro? there is a ton of good will. even hardcore senior avid heads inside broadcasters that are locked to avid for stability talk about ppro in surprising detail. odd side point: ppro has some serious facility level issues with lag and stability in terms of conflicting audio hardware settings. mad hornets nest.
but for corporate mixed design edit assets with animation there’s nothing within a country mile of it.
the source native timeline performance on older inexpensive hardware is nuts really.
and the fact that there’s full bezier masks for dodge and burn on promo shots now is crazy too. feels an embarrassment of riches.*edit* embarrasment of riches to me at any rate – people may feel differently. I like the thing better than 7.

[Oliver Peters] “I’ve found that transcripts can be a false aid,”
I did a thing with a ton of interviews for a health insurer – it’s quick and dirty, but as long as they’re answering clear, (maybe shared questions). stringing out and chopping each of the IV’s on its own sequence with each response getting a quick clapper board top with roughly written bulletin notes for the following answer can work pretty well? doing the cliff notes top for each answer can drill it in a bit, and putting the text slug notes on V2 lets you jump scan through each IV pretty quickly later. It’s maybe better than sub-clipping that way.
It really helps if the gig is small scale enough that the director/producer is invested enough in the result to sit in for the process –
its paired brain training as much as anything. not applicable to a ken burns doco like…https://vimeo.com/user1590967/videos http://www.ogallchoir.net promo producer/editor.grading/motion graphics

lord but I feel bad for the fact that I ever took the mickey out of his previous mission statement videos. His applied intellectual skill set is insane.

Yes, seriously? Have you still not yet caught that utterly tired memes and logical fallacies such as those disqualify you from any discussion above troll-level?
I’m not here – and I’m really really not – bar doffing cap to Franz, but this Robin S Kurtz seems quite the excellent firebrand? Just perfectly knowledgable and quite the pugilist. this forum has endless rowdy piper days ahead of it.

easily the most peculiarly interesting person to have posted here as long as I’ve been around anyway. the fact that he’s a left wing weimar fictional thief scrabbling desperately across Alexanderplatz notwithstanding. great posts.

October 15, 2014 at 2:34 am in reply to: Recommended After Effects Skills to haveI think a lot of these replies are hard to unpick. I think its far better to consider an after effects project from intent.
you will bring a sequential edit in. I think if you have postcards in your head for after effects moments, for what you can consider might happen after planning, that is better. you’re bringing a structure you understand in, and then you carefully shoot for the moon.
don’t like seeing project files full of “Precomp 31,” “Adjustment Layer 42,” and “Null 127” with everything hanging in the project root folder. I don’t like to see illogical precomping, but neither do I like to see a massively layered comp where precomping would have made it easier to understand. I don’t like to see complicated parenting chains across unnamed nulls spread out vertically all over the timeline. I don’t like seeing time-remapping used as a crutch.
all these comments are self congratulatory bullshit. we’ve all done this. this comment is meaningless.

[Bret Williams] “It’d be great it AE if you could just twirl down a pre comp and have everything available to edit right in the main comp.”
you can always padlock a second viewer for the pre-comp and pancake the two timelines. works pretty much perfectly..

[David Mathis] “I wonder if this is partly a response to Blackmagic Design acquiring Fusion by any chance”
i think the adobe team we know are honest in their endeavours by their own lights. The nuclear advancement of ppro is a bit of a sight for the ages really.
They are looking to validate CC and the development model it affords.Whether shantanyu cans 40% of them once he feels a plump subscription pillow under his arse is another matter.
Personally, this feels like war time effort. because if the PPro team keep going at this rate, they’re going to discover warp fusion by 2018.

Me neither – but I’m on it for a year. it’s incredible how quickly it gums up the works – I cant send ppro stuff to anything but CC AE, and backstepping AE CC 14 projects to AE CS6 is a two step song and dance.
the only thing left right now on the dock is ppro. There are rumours they’re going to make a deadly serious argument for CC AE in the near future, but right now I’ve walled off everything but CC PPro. Which I do quite seriously like tbh.
