I just sort of believe that apple are making weirdly reductive points about everything chance makes to construct an editor, it feels like they are grimacing very hard with every sinew of their being and attempting to produce truth for everyone simultaneously across the world, like season three end of lost when the sky shimmered —
when… they don’t actually have to? There has to be a way for apple to envision this software – staged complexity, while ungainly, is not unheard of. something – god anything –look – apple realistically cannot hope to hit two cultural points five hundred yards apart with a single intellectual gun. The craftsmanship of the bullet – that is not in question, but the exercise is, one might scream endlessly, lunacy.

I personally believe that the architectural efforts below the skin of this software, which are pretty serious, just keep searching ‘relational databases’ or whatever you care to off craig seeman or chris kenny, the clean stable work done is deadly serious – apple have made serious determinations about what they believe media generation and consumption should be in the medium term – let no one be in doubt that as production, they are expressing it in FCPX – the issue relates to their interpretation of tools and methodology, which is, of course, where you will find prats like me frothing on the floor – with regard to the architecture of the software – that stuff is warp core solid. we can argue like loopers for expressed methodology – but the substructure behind it is, I suspect, intellectual Ahhnollld.

but surely, by going digital, Leica did not alter the grammar of the lenses, the casing, threw out film, half the buttons, and the basic understanding of what the art of photography, and indeed who the practitioners of photography should be, simply based on Leica’s wildly successful range of Leica light cameras, that they realised they could sell an awful lot more of, if only they shifted the entire market by fief?
the point is Leica would have been in no position to pull off that kind of ludicrous insanity – photography professionals would have been protected against that insanity by a true craft professional market of competitive machined objects – but we’re in software now, and we only had premiere and avid left as bulwark, the flatbeds are gone – and that was not enough to stop apple’s insane, world anew posturing.

true bill – even if FCPX burns up in the suns corona, and we all stand around in space as green editing lanterns cracking beers, a neutral future observer is still probably going to think that I am definitively out of my gourd.
but for kicks – what do you make of these guy’s estimation of FCPXs core market – I mean, they said it right?

anyway sorry that was a tad hyperbolic but – “This doesn’t work like a standard multitrack editor, it’s taking away my control” well maybe that’s just right you know? It could very well be over-simplistic, throwaway and wrong, ignoring the new worth of the new methodologies, but then again, maybe a truly exposed non-magnetic multitrack editor trumps everything in terms of control. Maybe it doesn’t, but that statement could be true. Likely as not the professional market will decide the question with their feet. If i”m being totally honest – I don’t actually think I’ve given it enough of a shake of the stick myself, but sure we’ll see.

We have brains, we’ve all noodled around a fair bit at this stage and had a think – so that phrase is off the menu, its no longer about some hypothetical thing you somehow get and the other person doesn’t – its about the individual reaction of the editor to where apple has chosen to take the timeline.phrase off the menu it be. off. totally off. ree-moved.

Who the hell isn’t using DSLRs these days?
Man, when I first started saying – I’m going to premiere – on some level I was waiting for apple to scoop me up into their arms and say to me ‘now now baby we’ll fix everything’ and then they’d kiss my forehead. and then I’d cuddle in for a snooze, but like, well, that’s really not going to happen.12 months to fully know I guess? either apple have been out with the pooper scooper and that preterm software is usable or… its a year or less to premiere 6 and you’d have to reckon adobe would really, really like to exploit the opportunity here. PPro 6 could turn out to be quite the thing. Did you see the way they got their top guys on the phone with Jeffrey Harrell for a chat after his post? Man they’re actually hungry you know? Either way – there is *no way* I’m not learning premiere. I’m going to know it well and fully by the time version 6 hits.
