replying away to myself – here’s a really rough projection of real estate –

We can see the event area is in quite a bit of trouble – and not really a surprise here – the icons are back around FCP7 scale – so there was a reason for that.
Also – are tabs completely unholy in the tabernacle of apple? because they would come in really handy in this application. the event area is the real problem. Having bins *kof* *kof* smart collections only expose horizontally into to fat big lozenges or lists with a fat big three part wide lozenges on top – is there no hope for opening things out into windows on this thing? to which the answer really is sadly no. I still want tabs tho.http://www.ogallchoir.net

yeah, if there is any way out of this godawful mess – there needs to be some kind of a dialogue between professionals and apple.
This is at least a pneumatic message pipe. lets maybe try and keep the Nazi analogies on the forum and out of the pipe…
I think “enhancement request” might come up once or twice as feedback type.

yeah, I always knew I was supposed to read heinlein’s stuff, but did I get around to it?
I just looked him up – I’d forgotten he was Starship Troopers – I was an Asimov/Aldiss/Clarke kiddie.[John Godwin] “So far all I’ve figured out is how to copy selected effects from one clip to another without having to copy all of them,”
hey – that’s something. Ubsdell’s ploughing through it on the other forum too. He fell over on the lack of ganging behaviour. I think a lot of that stuff will come back – its just a question of whether they can get it done quickly enough. He made the point that for stuff like eyeball matching dailies or selects or whatever – you absolutely need a source monitor – I think between ganging, eyeball matching and multicam, they’re going to have to find room to get the source monitor back into that interface. that’s my own 2 cent.http://www.ogallchoir.net

what was with the pig reference there? give it a rest. You sound angrier than anyone, for reasons I don’t really understand. And please for god’s sake stop saying whine – or make long bad laboured attempts to make a wine “whine” gag – because that one died on its feet really badly.
At least we’re angry with apple – there’s some sense to that

This guy started out trying to write a review of FCPX, he ended up saying, well he said this:
There’s definitely going to be a revolution in post-production, dudes.
It’s the one where the masses pull Apple off the throne and cut its throat.
Thats right – a few days with FCPX and he literally fantasised about killing the entity apple.
There is actually a problem here, we’re none of us as angry as we were, but there is a serious problem with what apple have done, and how they have gone about it.http://www.ogallchoir.net

that’s a pretty stupid comparison – the people on those forums haven’t just had their editing platform explode in their faces.

July 2, 2011 at 3:45 pm in reply to: Switching to Premiere Pro CS5.5 or Media Composer 5.5yeah – premiere was a joke in london too – three years of freelance and I’ve never seen anyone cutting on Premiere, but that’s going to change now. Everyone – below the top end – is going to come to the same conclusion I think – that premiere is the easiest safest transition to hand. Hell its the only transition if its not Avid, premiere is the only thing left. That and our EOL software.
I just need the editor part myself – I’m a straight cutter – I’d always XML the cut to AE to do colour balancing, grading and relighting on a shot by shot basis anyway. And Premiere can definitely do that for me, I don’t even need the XML bridge anymore – I look at it and I’m comfortable that it can get the job done. The lack of a delivery codec is the only thing thats giving me pause, coming from my prores mindset – I know cineform is out there, but gopro just bought them, and besides, if I’m handing off Cineform QTs I’m going to have to put a sticky on them saying “please install the cineform codec”.
Bar that I’m pretty kosher hopefully. Thank God premiere got pretty up to snuff there. What if it was still the old mess? We’d all just have to walk straight over to Avid.http://www.ogallchoir.net

July 2, 2011 at 2:53 pm in reply to: Switching to Premiere Pro CS5.5 or Media Composer 5.5Premiere is way loads easier to take in from an FCP perspective I think. Depends I guess really.
I find myself looking at the timeline and the edit operations and thinking Premiere all looks pretty fine.
