usefull info and good to get someone elses perspective.
I get a lot of confused info on the varicam . with some saying there are PAL specific versions and others saying no its a one size fits all which I believe is correct.I’m old school and still like tape which is why Im thinking varicam over p2 or XD and price of course a 900R being way out of budget. Having had numerous hardrives die over the years doesnt give me faith as a long term back up medium.and backing up from card to tape anyway seems a pointless time consuming exercise particuarly if you want to keep the wilds as well.

just finished a concert edit with half the footage shot on nx5 the other half on my sx and had similar problems , only way i could get footage to work was to reclip in camera down to smaller than 5 minute clips. and still a few would not run correctly ay all which i suspect was an sd card or writing to card fault. personally I think the NX5 is crap, sorry I bought one apart from the above issues even when working its impossible to get really sharp .
anyway try the smaller clip option see how that goes.

Thx John , sorry to test your patience . just getting my head around 60 as pal 59.94 as ntsc . for over 15 years ive been using sony cam’s where 50 is 50 and 60 is 60 and before that it was ikegami. I run media composer which of course will take it I’m just a naturally cautious operator when it comes to change. and working mainly in a regional marketplace means budgets tight both the clients and mine so I ask lots of questions and ponder incessantly .

Gday Tim,

if you dont mind me asking , what platform are you editing in . as I said in my earlier post I’m looking at upgrading from sx to a varicam . but never having used one I’m wary of giving myself hassles i dont need. and the flagged frames on ingestion etc , concerns me a little. Are they truly 50hz switchable or is it 60hz at a set frame rate of 25fps for use as pal.

Ive been having the same issue in Prem , took delivery of an nx5 a couple of days ago and its been doing my head in trying to get audio sorted in cs4.
Ive also got a media composer v3 system that just wont recognise the footage at all though not even proxy. so thats another issue to sort. bought the little guy as a tester and back up before spearing in to a 350 as main cam . would like to get the bugs ironed out before buying the 5’s big bro.
would have been nice of sony to add this info in the manual pdf that comes with it.
