Thanks, that makes perfect sense only its my client. So in the end I will be responsible for the end product.

In other words I have to hand this directly to the Movie Theater.

I think one of the questions comes down to: “WHY”, why do companies and people behave this way?

We have had many experiences like your company. I believe its psychological. Most companies have a marketing department. In my experience the marketing department or the different people in it mostly have their own agenda and not always keeping the companies best interest in mind.
They are there to make a career, or come up with the best ideas. I have felt in the past that some persons actually feel threatened by my presence as a marketer/producer.

They act as if they are the once that should do the job because thats why they are there. maybe they feel the boss will think, why do I need you if the Production company can actually do the whole job.

Their job is to come up with the marketing ideas and have a production company execute them (at least they think so). This way they can take the credit and secure their job.
Thing is, its so great when a person like this works together with the production company from the start. But unfortunately many of these persons are under qualified.

I do not have these problems when I deal directly with the Boss or Director or even better the owner.

But I recently presented a great idea to the director of a company and he loved it, when he called his marketing manager in, the mareting manager started finding all kinds of negative sides to the campaign I presented. Never the less the director loved my ideas so no loss there, the M. Manager really felt, why are we bringing in this guy… are my ideas not good enough etc etc.

So I believe that although our experiences are not exactly the same, the psychology behind the behavior might be related.
Understanding why they act this way helps in how to approach them or deal with them, It helped me in many ways.

    Hi, thanks for the ideas.

Nick, I see you are in New York. Be happy there because at this moment its VERY HOT here. Aircos ar working overtime!!! Great idea about the winter special, I am all for it.

My question is, where do I start? Ad agencies????? Just start targeting ad agencies? and where do i find them?

Well here is my link: https://www.cmpcuracao.com

You will see we also do audio and music recordings. Actually we do like total productions for local cinemas too (visual effects/sound effects).
The cartoon animations were designed, scripted, storyboarded and voice overed inhouse.

Currently we are working on 3d characters with some very interesting projects pending.

Hope the link opens without problems.

    Sory, the question was.

Can a puldown be added to 23.976 without converting it to 29.97 and still be delivered to TV?

    Thanks for the help.

Whow thnx every one, sounds complicated though.

I acctually dont record to tape, do most animations diggitally then deliver a quicktime to the TV station.

Even 1080 and 720 I do rendr progresive (never added a pulldown yet, if in 29.97 needs to go to The movies I make it 23.976 with the method Kevin explained (gets a bit longer though so I rest some stuff).

The Tv station just convertes to MPG, no tape… I guess in that conversion they make it 29.97 again….they broadcast on mpeg.

    Question:

    1. Is the way I work ok?
    2. How do you convert back from 23.976 to 29.97 NTSC (with puldown) and will there be anny loss in quality?
    3. can the animation sty 23.97 amd ad a pulldown and still be able to broadcast?

Thsnks so much, I feel I need to know this stuff or at least the basics. My clients pay so I want to make sure all goes well with theire product.

Thank you very much, this is very clear.

Maybe its me but when I render I do not see the option UPPER/LOWER, I always render quicktime movies.

I will always render progressive probably but would still like to know where these settings are.

    Kind regards

    Adeeb
PS: Thanks so much, my animaton plays smooth at 24 frames, I just had to do the fade in a little later to make up for the extra secs beause of the convertion.

Thanks so much for all the inf. I need to take a moment to study this.

For now I think I will go with the interpret footage (conform to frame rate). Its toooo much work to back into the AE project and re-render.

    Questions:

    1. When not using video footage, just AE animations. exported as quicktime. While setting the compostion settings, Is this always progresive if I select squared pixels? Doest the preset HDV/HDTV 720 29.97 have anything to do with anything?

2.In iterpret footage should I leave Pixel aspect ratio to : Squared pixels?

    3. After convertion method above, What happens if I go to time stretch and put 80% to compensate the 20% of slowdown.

    Thanks again,

April 23, 2009 at 5:56 pm in reply to: 29.97 frames to 24 frames convertion

Well I feel responsible somehow so I gues I will put in the extra work.

Gues I will edit it at the normal frame rate first and then convert the final 30 sec spot. Or just convirt the selected footage instead of the whole 30 min ruff footage.

but if the final 24 frames look is realy worth it I will do it, it was one of the clients whishes.

The scenes are very stable, shot with tripod and only two guys sitti ng having a converstation. filmed from different angles.

    Any other tips are welcome.
