All very well put. I work in a similar environment – public access. This is going to be revolutionary for people like us. This product reaches a wider market, so it could be argued that Apple was listening, they were just trying to make a broader reach.
My two cents? Apple is listening to the cries. I think they will allow FCP7 support for some time to come. I also think that this product was rushed for delivery, and over the next year we are going to see a bunch of needed features come in (import XML, Multicam, etc…) In hindsight, December might have been a better launch point, but they wanted it now, perhaps to coincide with Lion…I don’t really know.
So. Maybe this software is for more people, but not truly for “pros”. My guess is the quality of Youtube videos just went up dramatically as of yesterday.

Na, I prefer to use this product for three hours, swear off the company completely, then blindly react to every post – this is a much more productive workflow for me.
I’m switching to Microsoft ME, thank you. Windows Movie Maker is a fine editing program, and they LISTEN to their customers.

For what it’s worth – the One Star rating is now at “162”…and Four star is “119”
I think people are hopping mad about this release, and it will be interesting to watch Apple’s response to it.
…but let’s all try and take a deep breath. Cooler heads will prevail.

I’m posting the start of this thread with the full knowledge that some pieces are glaring omissions from our day-to-day operations.
We output EVERYTHING to tape. Well, time to upgrade, I guess. We’ve been talking about an entirely tapeless workflow for two years, so this is our proper nudge.
Multi-cam – we use it extensively. It’s a necessity for our operation, but I venture to guess 90% of FCP users never even use it. So, I guess concerts and multicamera shoots will have to be edited in FCP7.
Sometimes, these problems solve themselves.

All of that is legit, and based in a factual, well-founded fear…I just don’t understand how some are going from that to disavowing Apple all together. We all need to calm down. I’m sure the later releases will take care of many of the issues, like opening in the timeline…In the end, I think (see also: hope) we will all be better off.
