I have the same issue at times. I think it has to do with how Premiere is storing files in the media cache.

    Here’s my workaround so far:

    1. Dump the media cache and do it frequently.

    2. Set up an SSD dedicated to the media cache.

    3. Use proxies and lower playback res.

    4. Close and re-open the project.

Does anyone else have this problem and/or fixes?

I was frustrated by this, too. Here’s my workaround:

Copy M5 to a separate drive— in my case, I have a partition with Snow Leopard as David Roth Weiss recommends.

REMOVE M5 entirely from the system drive. Open FCP and check that it roundtrips with M4 (it should as long as you haven’t deleted M4).

Check that you can open M5 from the other drive.

Now you will be able to roundtrip between FCP and M4 and use M5 as a standalone.

I want to be able to roundtrip with FCP7 and Motion4, but when I send a clip to Motion it opens M5 and of course that’s the end of the round trip.

Anyone know how to get FCP7 to send to M4 and keep M5 as a standalone?

    Thank you…

    Thanks, Mark…

It was an inexpensive rental and I have a feeling the glass quality was not great. All other factors were in order. Appreciate your thoughts— I’ll know what to ask for next time.

I recently used an LCD prompter with a Sony EX-3 and it worked fine, except for the degradation of the image! Does anyone know of a prompter that has a beam splitter that doesn’t so noticeably degrade HDV?

I’m rendering the whole sequence as ProRes right now (1-2 hours on a 3 GHz Quad Intel). My goal is to have shorter render times as I finish the project over the next 2 weeks. Final output will be compressed for web and DVD. Am I on the right track here?
