The previous post hit almost everything about a good setup for such an event. One thing I would add is that even if you can get a feed from the audio system, I would also put a wireless on the podium for your other channel. You never know what kind of quality you’ll come across in the house AV and in the operators of that AV. It’s best to have an audio source that you can also control yourself.

I must first say that I think the advice in here is spot on with suggesting a good P2 workflow. Now…does anyone else find this conversation ironic?
We are just starting to get great productivity from this P2 card technology and it’s arguably much more efficient than tape, but yet, some people are already complaining about offloading cards, etc. and trying to find an even faster work flow. The next step is to build editing laptops with lenses built right into them so we can set focus and hit record from inside the editing program!
I’m not trying to pick on the original poster for his questions, I’m only making an observation about how we’ve ALL become pretty used to an on-demand life these days:)

If it’s your own project it’s pretty typical to include it as part of the job, like Noah said. I’ve seen rates online for companies who just do encoding and they seem to range from 3-5 dollars per minute of video encoded with a standard session fee charge per job. Usually that’s 30-50 dolloars.

A good editor can ride the levels and make it sound like nothing changes. It’s basically manual compression. If you bring your audio up during a pause in dialouge make sure you ramp it up and make it flow in and out of the dialouge so you don’t hear the level raise. Sometimes it’s easy and sometimes it’s almost impossible, but when you get it right it sounds perfect. When you get it wrong it sounds like AGC.

You don’t have to do anything…
There is a “video usage” and “audio usage” collumn in the bin. It will display a number showing how many times that clips audio or video has been used in a timeline.

Open your title in the title editor. Right click anwhere on the screen and you’ll see a menu that will allow you to insert a still image file.

Thanks for the advice. Do you know anything about Cinemacraft? It was recommended by someone on this board as a good software encoder.

You can use the Adobe Media Encoder inside PPro to make an MPEG2 for DVD. I don’t know a good scale to give you numbers off hand about what quality level you need to be at to fit one hour on a DVD. I believe I have done that a few times with a typical bitrate VBR encoding.

4.7G for single layer, and over 9 for dual layer.

A lot of people are aware that there are 4+ hour porno DVDs out there…but how do you know they’re good quality?? : )

When you create your DVD you can make it a 16X9 DVD which will then rely on the DVD player to force it into letterbox on 4:3 TVs. That is the default setting for most DVD players, but I have seen a few that stretched the image. Your other option is to make a 4:3 DVD and force the letterbox that way.

I don’t know anything about those two. Using PPro or Encore for your encoding should be no problem and you should be able to fit it on one disc with ease.
You may want to post your questions in the DVD Authoring forum on this site. Those guys can give you more precise answers on some of this.
