So you’re mixing Uncompressed and DV50? They have different field orders (DV is upper, UC is lower). Try putting “Shift Fields” effect on one of the clips and see if that works….

oh, and go ahead and get the Apple fibre card. ATTO is twice as expensive, but we have only used apple’s cards (made by LCI) and they work just fine.

Buy a fibre card for your Mac Pro. The drive will live on that computer only. Everyone else connects over the network… just like you would to any other drive on someone else’s computer. gigabit ethernet is plenty fast to play video files (except uncompressed, but that’s probably not how you’re going to edit).

6.0.2 still has problems with QT media that has uneven frame rates…. but whatever. that’s why you keep 5.1.4 in your Apps folder 🙂

A full blown XSAN is expensive and requires a top notch tech to properly set up.
if it’s just the 2 of you, you can get away with buying a nice fibre channel storage option (like a G-Speed), and you can edit off it connected over gigabit ethernet while your assistant loads and syncs.

Gefen makes rock solid products. We’ve got their USB over cat 5 extenders throughout our studio.
You’ll need an extender capable of Dual Link DVI for the 30″s. I don’t know if any of their Cat 5 products is capable of that?
They have these booster boxes that turn DVI into fibre optic (over thin cables) and back into DVI… but those are REALLY expensive. For a 20′ run I’d just buy DVI cables that have fibre optic built in:

Also dig around on BM’s website. I remember some troubleshooting note about D5’s specifically… but I think that was just the “Panasonic 422” suggestion I already made.

Are you locked to reference or input video? Do you have the BM preferences “output stable black…bla bla” turned on?
I would typically have the D5 lock to input video straight from the BM card. it seemed happiest then.
(and yes borjis, AJA totally blew past them in so many regards)

Did you change you deck control configuration to Panasonic instead of Sony?
Before I ditched BM for Kona, we laid off to D5 fairly often and it was solid. 1080/23.98 or 720/60?
