Right now it looks like Alan is right. There’s going to be a lot of unhappy people with this release. the only compelling changes are the upgrades to Color… I don’t see anything about FCP I couldn’t gloss over in about 2 minutes.

You want your 23.98 media in a 23.98 timeline.
what you have now, 29.97 timeline, FCP simply duplicates whole frames to fill in the gap. Step through and you should see dupe frames.
So you have a 23.98 timeline, if you select 1080i/29.97 as your Kona VIDEO OUT, then you get the RT menu options for pulldown.
2:3:2:3 is the standard 3:2 interlace scheme. The other two are advanced pulldown and the 2224 is a pulldown for slower computers.

Get the final sequence into a clean project. Make a bin. Drag all the clips from the timeline into the bin. Sort by duration. This will help you find the bad clips. Maybe you just digitize those clips by hand and cut them in?

I would die and go to heaven if, should they EVER make a new version of FCP, we had more options for color. Light grey with mild pastels is not terribly useful.

Here’s maybe a helpful trick:
you can highlight multiple clips in the bin, right click on their REEL name, and a list of all the REEL names used in the project appears – simply select one and FCP changes all the reels.
So if you have “HDCAM_DAILIES_TAPE_001”, rename just one clip “001”, and that will appear in your list of REELS.

Since you already have a fiber card, you might look into the G-Speed FC. We’ve had a 1.2 TB for about 3 years, and it simply works. Not quite “whisper quiet” but nothing like the blowers in an Apple Xraid

Try Compressor. Make a custom setting with 23.98 as FPS, go into Frame Controls:
Output fields = progressive
deinterlace = better or best
rate conversion = better or bestsee what it comes up with. I’ve gotten pretty impressive results from 60i HDV that needed to go into 1080/23.98 uncompressed.
