Bob, I know it’s your schtick to be aggressively preachy, but honestly?
I own a Gen 10 thank you very much. But I probably should stop eating for 2 weeks just for the heck of it.

Sorry John you’re right, I should post system info. I do know my way around an SR deck fairly well. I just got wrapped up in Sunday morning panic.
Everytime I’ve used an SR deck it greys out the FC selections which would be “invalid” or cause problems, right? I could swear I’ve been working in 1080/2398 and the FC was set to 1080i/5994 without issues before.

It was the frame converter on the deck! It was set to 1080i/5994 and that was causing havoc, I set it to 444 1080/2398
But something still seems fishy.

If you have the space and data throughput: 10bit uncompressed.
RGB/YUV 4:4:4/4:2:2 will solely depend on what you get from the telecine house. 4:2:2 YUV is pretty standard.

Do you need to make edits that change run time or cut points? That is, does the audio need edits?
If not, simply insert edit picture back onto tape. leave the audio alone.
Dolby E is designed to be edited to a degree (you can make insert edits if the deck is set up right) – but it’s also easy to ruin.

I can’t speak for Blu-Ray specifically, but in Compressor you can do “new surround file.” you have to manually select the audio file for each channel (so you’d have to have them exported to disk), but it makes a compliant Dolby Digital 5.1 ac3 file for you.

Just a word of wisdom:
sometimes there’s no “easy” solution. Sometimes you just have to sweat it out and do it the long way. And often doing it the long way is quicker than waiting to figure out the “easy” solution

AH! Render out 1080×20000 TGA of credits with Roughen Edges applied.
bring back in to new comp. Use as 3d layer and dolly camera down Y axis. It’s *MUCH* quicker to render than trying to Y translate that TGA in 2d space. This way I can make quick changes to credits and not have to adjust a bunch of pre-comps

That seems like the best approach.
