that’s what I was afraid of… what about free options to convert on the PC side, ive got one of those here, but haven’t had much luck there either. the converters Ive tried for PC all have a time limit or they watermark the video.

    thanks,

one note about the “more expensive” mac comments, not just here but everywhere.
I was checking out pricing for top of the line, decked out systems. I first checked apple, mac pro, maxed out most everything except multiple graphics cards, including two 24in monitors, 16gb ram, 4x1TB hd. the closest equivalent dell I could build, spec wise, including two dell 22in monitors (they don’t make 24s) the price was actually about $1900 more for the PC.
I agree there are many more options for cheepo win machines out there than macs, but as far as fully decked out, they come out about the same. (granted you could build a pretty nice win machine for less than buying from dell…)

November 25, 2009 at 5:19 pm in reply to: 9-scale grid?

thanks for the quick reply Dave,
Ive got the rounded rectangle, the problem is, when I scale it non-proportionally (not a mask shape transform) the corners deform into non-circular shapes. in flash, I get two horizontal and two vertical guides that let me define the corners of an object, the corners will not scale, only the parts between the guides.

Also im in ae7, no rounded rectangle masks (I copied one from illustrator).

    thanks,

  • strange problem indeed, sounds more like a server problem than after effects. just a thought, flash now supports h264 video, have you tried exporting a .mov with h264 and streaming that in flash? how are you trying to stream the video in flash? there are a few different ways to do that too. as a test, have you tried importing the flv into flash and using the built-in player that flash has? or if you have a player on your server that CAN play flv’s, you could try replacing the flv that player loads to your new one. try the h264 first though, better quality video anyway.

    good luck!

    thanks for the tip!

November 20, 2009 at 4:43 pm in reply to: amazing photo image effects and transitions?

Not quite sure which transition you are talking about. There is a lot going on there, the real key is not to try to figure out what they did to create the effect, but study what is actually happening and think of how you would create the effect.

For example one transition I see is what looks like the image is kind of spinning to another image. I would do this by spinning the layer in 3d space on the Y axis, turn on the motion blur for the layer, then use the posterize time effect, which will give you the multiple image look.

just remember, it isn’t about how they did it, it’s how you would do it. many effects can be created multiple ways, you just need to find one that works for you.

I tried that too but it seems backwards to sweeten the audio before choosing which edits you want to use. When I send the master clip, from the browser, to soundtrack pro, after saving and returning to fcp the .stap is imported as a separate media asset, which I then have to re-link to the video, this still seems un-streamlined.

I guess im looking for an option to replace an audio track in my sequence with another track, keeping the same in/out points. I know about the replace edit command, but when I try to use it like this, I get this error: “This edit requires all target items to be linked.” which wouldn’t work for this, because I only want to replace the audio. I would think I could: right click>replace linked media, then choose another audio file in my browser.

seems so simple, but I cant find an elegant way.

    thanks!

thanks for the response, I have tried that and it is looking for the video track to go along with it, even after un-linking the video and audio of the clip. Even if it did work, it seems tedious to have to re-connect audio on every clip in the sequence.

What is your workflow for editing audio in a sequence? Do you handle each clip’s audio individually? for things like removing noise or normalizing, which could be globally applied to a master clip’s audio to change all sequence clips.

    thanks
