Sorry for the omission, Shane. I overcranked in 720/24pN at 48 and 60fps w/the hvx200.

David, yes, I agree.
I hadn’t had much experience posting in 720pN and then going to SD DVD (or tape). Prior to this project I’d only shot a lot of HD, not necessarily cut or mastered. But now I’m fully on board and caught up with the process. 😉Thx again.

Well, what I decided to do before I received all these responses, was nest my HD sequence in an SD sequence first, and export as an SD file from there. I found that, as long as I made sure the SD sequence had field dominance set to “none,” the DVD ultimately looked great. If any field dominance was applied then the 720p shots would look aliased and the 1080i shots would stutter a bit…but I understand why.

Well, I tried using the “DV NTSC” Advanced Format Conversion, and what I’m unable to do is get Compressor to not zoom in on the footage and leave my edges alone. I’m not sure how to set that up in Compressor. And I’m finding that not only does Compressor crop the edges, but the video looks anamorphically squeezed as well, regardless fo what pixel aspect ratio I tried (and I basically tried them all). It would be nice to have this figured out, in case I ever get pre-captured HDV footage that I have to work into a DV timeline in FCP.

I figured out how to do it via the i-link downconvert setting on the Z1U, and then having to select “DV NTSC” in FCP. That gets me DV footage when I capture. Great. Now…what about converting to DV what I already have captured on HDV…how to set that up in Compressor…
Any thoughts?

…thanks, i’m pretty sure this will work now….especially since, after I realized what made the batch monitor fail, I was still dissatisfied, since I kept getting “squeezed” quicktimes. But now I know why…I was setting the output to a “4:3 ratio” as opposed to a 16:9 ratio (what the file was cropped to emulate). This new data makes total sense…preview monitor in compressor tells me I’m going to get what I need now…THX!!

I had them chained via a FW800 cable, with another FW800 cable going to my G5. 😉
