Okay, so- I just returned to a place I cut at every so often, where they have two FCP Studio systems running. On one, Quicktime 7.x is gone, not even in the utilities folder. The QT they do have, version 10, is useless for pro use. This is OS 10.6.6

The other system, which is running 10.5.7, has 7.6 still, but when I copy it over to the first system, it won’t allow me to run it: “You can’t use this version of the application with this version of Mac OS X.” I figured it was more complicated that simply dragging the app over, but the FCP studio installation disc has no quicktime installer, so I’m not really sure what we can do, other than some crazy reverting to a previous OS, which isn’t going to happen.

I would think this would be a major issue for a lot of people. No?

Did you figure this out? I have a similar weirdness. I am exporting quicktimes shot on HDV. 24p. As soon as I choose the “using quicktime conversion” option, you can see the video frames shifting in the Canvas, even before the export window comes up. When it does, no matter what settings I choose, the video exports with different in/out marks and jumps and skips frames here and there. If I export a full quicktime movie, however, not using “conversion” but just a full-framed quicktime, it works fine.

This is a multiclip sequence, so I tried collapsing all the multiclips AND rendering all effects before export. Same thing. Any ideas? I didn’t capture the video myself- it was sent to me via hard drive so I don’t know the camera specs.

  • Just want to add my thanks and fyi- I’ve got a quad 2.5ghz G5 and this worked like a charm. I guess the “annoying” warning comes up every time I lauch the app, but that’s fine with me. The feeling of being able to use a perfectly usable mac the way it should be used, against stupid Apple’s wishes, is priceless!
