Koti, it occurs to me that possibly the size of this particular file is too large for the BD. I also use Toast 11 for my BD’s and also my BD burner is the Lacie. I’m also using a very similar camera as you, mine is the Sony EX 1 which is replaced by the PMW 200. I convert my camera footage into the ProRes 422 HQ codec which gives smaller file sizes yet maintains great picture quality, maybe that’s your problem.

Anyone know what the improvements are, apart of course from supporting the new OS? Any point in installing 2.1.4 at this stage if staying with Mountain Lion?

Floh, I know that you seem to be able to answer almost any question put to you regarding Media 100. The two items that I would most like to be covered would be colour changes within the nice little option in the edit suite, Color FX, particularly using RGB levels, and re conforming aspects 4:3 to 16:9.
However, you do make the quite understandable point that you are a busy professional and composing tutorials might not be high on your list of priorities!

Don, would you miss the ‘joystick’ that I refer to? Do you shuttle between on screen menus whilst on a shoot? I didn’t realise that an improved chip might give (slightly) better picture quality.

Tom, the EX cameras are still doing a great job, you won’t get better pictures with the replacements, could anyone tell the difference between stuff shot at 35mbps or 50, I doubt it? I’ve had material broadcast from 35mbps material and it looked very good. No doubt though that if you do a lot of broadcast work you’ll need the 50mbps sooner rather than later. You could record off camera at much higher rates but easier to do it in camera of course. I’m not changing, my EX 1 does everything I want and the PMW 200 does not have the convenient ‘joystick’ on the top to operate the on screen menu, just a button which is much harder to use without actually looking at it. They wanted the screen to fold flat over the top, don’t camera designers ever use the product they design? That ‘joystick’ is a lifesaver for me, anyone else find that?

Oh dear Vic, not wishing to put a ‘spanner in the works’, but I had similar difficulties with ProRes 42 HQ material but, following advice, went to 0-255 colour space and the subsequent DVD’s and BD’s look fantastic. This may however be illegal for broadcast, I’m not technically qualified to comment on that, all I do is use my eyes.

Andy, I started shooting with the EX 1 when all they had was Sony EX Transfer and it worked brilliantly. It did all I want to do (and I suspect you too). I can view clips, select in’s and out’s, import etc. Simple and quick. Then Sony started to mess about with all sorts of wondrous new features, issuing new software such as Browser, now Content Browser which, while apparently doing all the things I wanted, seemed unnecessarily complicated and time wasting. I convert my media to ProRes 422 HQ on import to Media 100 for editing but I think that it’s Media 100 doing the converting, not Transfer.
Sony have (of course) discontinued Transfer, forcing new users into the difficulties that you are experiencing. Luckily I retained mine but, with each new OS it is becoming harder to use, involving one or two work arounds.
Good luck, it’s hard enough acquiring our footage, we can do without barriers erected in our path en route to editing!

Vic, I’m afraid I don’t know what version goes with the various OS versions. Why wouldn’t BitVice work with OS 10.5.8? I’ve been using it for years and I must also have been on 10.5.8 at some stage.
