Hey I need some help fast!

Iv’e been asked to make a zoom that goes into a picture that is over 20000 x 20000. The idea is that you zoom really close into this giant star shaped image with lots of detail and move around. But even though my system is pretty good I can’t work with anything that high. I’ve tried to cut the image into smaller pieces and parent via null and it’s seems to work but doesn’t seem ideal. Any ideas or suggestions? what do you normally do if you have to zoom into a really high-res

It depends a lot on what kind of image- is it a photograph or artwork that can be vectorized? If it’s a photo the way you started is a good one- cutting the image in pieces and parenting them to a null.
If it’s artwork that can be converted to vector then it’s worth doing that and then you’ll be able to zoom in as close as you want and not worry about size.

Then it is best to vectorize that artwork in AI using live trace and then use the vector image in AE.

thanks for the suggestion, seems interesting but I don’t think our graphic designer can do that. The image is very detailed and could look a bit like this:

Anything can be vectorized in AI – it may take a little time though, that’s all.

How much do you need to move around? If you just need to zoom in, then move a little bit, you can use the technique here [link] for the zoom, then crop your final image so you only use as big of an image as you need for the moving around part.
