Long time, (too much to admit to) video editor.

We record a one hour, multicam, talk show, weekly. There has been an older zoom model recorder, but, the sound is, well, crap.
The zoom recorder is fed by a mixer and provides the master audio track to edit the video.

So, I brought my own H6, piggy backed 2 separate channels off of the 1/4 outputs of the old zoom recorder into the XRL in on the H6.
Was able to record the individual channels 1L and 3R and also “L and R” recorded a combined stereo channel.
There were 4 red lights indicating a record for the aforementioned channels. The sound was great, used it in the edit that week. Big improvement.

The following week, attached the same cables from same source and was NOT able to get the L/R combined file this time. The L/R red record lights would not activate as the the error code “Connect Input Unit!” appeared.
The other channels, 1L, 3R recorded fine, but, don’t sound quite as crisp as the combined file.
Obviously I have connected the input since the other two channels are recording.

My audio days are from long ago, so, maybe someone can drop a hint as to what this old geezer is doing wrong?

    Get off of my lawn.

Get rid of the older unit. Most likely it has a problem in passing the signal thru. Go from the mixer direct into the H6 and see if that doesn’t eliminate the issue.

It’s been months, and the Zoom H6 won’t give me that L/R thing, still. We’ve rewired the studio and it does not matter what the source of the audio is, I can only use the individual 1/2 channels. Any other sources I’ve tried out of the studio yield the same result.

So weird that it worked once great..and now, can’t ever duplicate it?

    ..so anyway.
