June 19, 2017 at 7:16 pmOur Zoom F8 has crashed a few times now. While recording, the screen suddenly shows the time counter of “999:59:59” as if it were recording for almost 1000 hours. The recording does not stop, and the count of available space on the SD cards remains accurate and declining as normal but the recorder won’t stop or power down. The only option is to pull all power sources out which does not close the audio files properly so data is lost or corrupted. See attached image showing this. It’s possible one of the cards is bad and that’s causing the whole thing to crash, so we’re running a test now but wanted to see if anyone else had a similar experience.

Do you format the cards before each shoot?

June 22, 2017 at 7:13 pmThanks Ty. Yes, we do format the cards before use. Since posting, we’ve experienced the issue with a new pair of cards. We also did contact Zoom about the problem, but I was hoping in the meantime that if this was a known issue then there was a fix, if not at least an explanation. Coming up empty so far I’m afraid.

Probably a long shot, but are you running the latest available firmware 3.2.0 available on the zoom site. I recall having a separate unrelated issue with my H6 a few years ago (right after the H6 was available and right after I purchased it) and noted it was not on the latest version.
