Hello All

I was actually just looking for some advice on exporting a video for youtube… i am doing this quite a lot lately, and i haven’t been able to find a setting that works very well.

can i get away with just using a QT conversion? or should i use compressor? i’m not looking for suburb, HD quality, just something that still looks resonable and clean, but doesn’t take FOREVER to export.

ie… i’ve tried doing a QT conversion, and i selected streaming – medium as the setting. the quality was terrible… and the aspect ratio was stuffed up (all my videos are wide screen). I don’t know if i should set the size to custom 640*360 (the exact size of the youtube player) or what.

i did it again and selected LAN/INTERNET and set the size to PAL 720*576 16:9 and although i was HAPPY with the video, it took 20 mins to export (the clip is only 49 secs long) which is way to long. (9.6mb)

i have tried using compressor in the past but haven’t had much luck, im always fustrated bcoz none of the streaming presets are widescreen… so im always not sure what i should make the dimensions. i use compressor for big jobs but it would be great if there was just an easy setting in final cut for when i want to quickly upload something to youtube for my partner to review etc

i think the quality is OK… what does everyone else think? it looks nice on HQ, but i think most people just watch in NQ these days, so do you think that still looks ok? i don’t know why there are really small black lines at the top and bottom either, odd.

so bottom line can i get the quailty this good (even if the HQ isn’t as good i don’t mind) but with a much faster export? as you can see i just don’t know what settings/codec/dimensions are best! can any one help?

Hi Carey,
Everything hat you send to YouTube is re-compressed.
You need to send your pictures the less compressed that you can.
If you know that the size in YouTube is 640×360, do it that size.
Try H264. data rate 700Kbps. Set Key Frames : Automatic. Fields Reorder, Two Passes. Fraames Per Second, as your movie.
Set the audio AAC 128 or 96 Kbps.
Sure will look great in your computer.

It looked pretty good the way you had it, might check the spelling for “Debutante”, but that may be a UK vs. US spelling thing. I myself wouldn’t get worked up over a 20-minute render if the results looked that good.

thanks Mark thats kinda what i wanted to know.. if that sort of quality was acceptable for that kind of render time etc.

oh good pick up with the spelling too lol, you’re right. in my defence i just copied and pasted the text the client gave me… just goes to show one should always double check hey 🙂
