I have taped some games and uploaded to YouTube. They were taped using a Canon GL 2 in 16:9 mode. I tried to render to main concept mp4 and upload and they looked bad. So I rendered to AVI NTSC DV widescreen and uploaded them. They look better but not great. Not too bad in YouTube small screen mode, but washed out in full screen.

So how can I get the best resolution for something shot in standard def? Is AVI the best way to upload and let YouTube encode? What do they encode to?

YouTube will recompress everything you send, even if you match their specs. I think they are using the VP6 encoder. You may try using the New Blue uprez plug-in, but SD is SD.

As Stephen said, SD is SD, not much quality you can get from those,
    especially on youtube.

Yeah, pretty much thought so, but thought there might be something I could do to improve things. Can’t make chicken salad out of chicken poop I guess. I’m having flash backs to the old days of VHS and SVHS going to digital.

    Thanks for the response.

Just ordered a Canon VIXIA HF G30 HD Camcorder with HD CMOS Pro. That ought to look good on YouTube.
