I’m running Avid Xpress Pro and I cut a lot of interviews where the talent/ interviewer constantly cuts over the celeb. I was wondering what your take is on the best way to go from byte to byte being as smooth as possible. I would prefer to do straight cuts but now I’m using cross dissolves for a lack of doing something better. I always but a 3 frame centered cross dissolve on the video and below am 8 frame dissolve on the audio. Is there a standard that you guys use? Also, If I do use a straight cut do I still throw a dissolve on the audio? If so how many frames do you dissolve? What is your personal default way that you use for MOST interview transitions?

This movie is kinda what I’m looking for:

there is no default. An 8 fram audio dissolve in one place simply wont work on all. I edit according to the event at hand.
I’d go with cuts visually for dialog.
