You knew THIS was coming
Posted by Tim Wilson on June 29, 2010 at 9:38 pmKind of off-topic, but kind of interesting: a guy sets aside his RED camera, and decides to shoot a commercial using his iPhone 4. You can only see 360 video on the iPhone itself, but can apparently connect to a PC and it outputs full 720p.
It’s obviously going after something more like the Flip than the Canons and Nikons…but pretty interesting for a first try, and I think you guys are forward-thinking enough to have some interesting perspectives.
Whaddya think?

June 29, 2010 at 10:21 pmThey said they shot the iPhone next to the Red. To bad they didn’t show the Red version because I imagine it would have blown the iPhone version out of the water. Sorry Tim, I guess this means I’m not forward-thinking enough. But to think you could do basic editing on a iPhone is amazing. I remember joking about doing that not to long ago and here it is for reals. I started out deck to deck editing and loved the day I edited on a computer. It is amazing how fast technology is moving.

June 29, 2010 at 10:39 pmBTW- the ‘on camera light’ the iPhone 4 has is actually kinda usable for a tiny touch of fill/eyelight. Use it…

June 30, 2010 at 10:10 pmFor most of the people who have some kind of knowledge of the production world, this video is far from perfect. But is it really aimed at these people? No. From a common viewer’s point of view this is a pretty good video!
However that being said, we have to remember that it was a Pro who made this video even though it was made with an Iphone. Like so many other people say on this forum ” It does’nt matter what the tool is, important thing is knowing how to use it and get the best results?

But he has faith that it will happen.” — Carl Ally

Who said anything about enforcing that idea. I’m just a guy with an opinion. Anyone can choose to listen to it or not. I’m just saying you should do things to enhance a video. For example, I found the ariel shot very distracting. It wiggles like it is jell-o because of how the camera captures a frame. Did that shot help enhance the story being told? Did they even need an ariel shot? I think it is important to ask ourselves, what will better tell the story…not, lets do this because we can.
I say, if you want to shot a spot with an iPhone more power to you.Stephen Smith

July 2, 2010 at 9:55 pmThanks for sharing. How much of it was shot on the iPhone? It has multi-camera interviews and you can see a camera operator not holding an iPhone. The reflection at 7 seconds does not look like an iPhone. Not that it matters, I think they mean it is all iPhone once the graphic says so. Would we be talking about how cool these videos where if they where not shot on an iPhone?

July 3, 2010 at 9:53 amI think the point is you can create and edit video that look like that………..on a flippin iphone!!!!
Like it or not, this is where alot production business be going….
Granted, it needs some work but if I were a producer and you pulled that spot off in a afternoon for half the cost, while sending a proof of the work over an iphone, you’d get my business.
