My intention was to use Vegas to create a custom background for a website where the main design was a bulletin board, aka cork, with pictures posted, yellow stickies, etc… Output would be 1920X1080.

Content is placed directly in the center of the page rendering the middle unviewable (960X540). With the edges of the middle where I want to put the content to properly scale to different screen sizes.

Put the cork on the timeline (1920X1080)
Place a solid black background (960X540)

It looks perfect in the preview monitor for what I want, aka the black background as a guide on where to place things. As soon as a close the newly created media black stretches to fill the screen. Damn if I don’t recall a really simple switch in previous versions like (stretch to file screen) to turn-off. Alas I see nothing in the media that allows me to change this.

    Hummmmmm

P.S. I tried turning off stretch to fill in event pan and crop, no luck.

If you want to place a 960X540 image in a 1920×1080 frame then open Pan/Crop and make the width 1920 and the height 1080. That will center the black image at it’s original size.
