    Hi,

I was happily editing away earlier today and shut down the Mac.

I come back to the office, make some backups and do some other things on the Mac, then when I want to do some more editing, FCP won’t open.
    Nada.

I am certain I didn’t accidentally delete the program files.
The icons for FCP and the other programs are all still there [eg, Soundtrack Pro and Motion still open].

    Any ideas about a remedy?
    Trash prefs or whatever?

    FCP 6.0.6
    OSX 10.5.6

    Thanks,

    Wayne

Yes, trash prefs and repair permissions. Launch the application, not a project.

    All the best,

    Thanks Tom,

Well, I used FCP Rescue to delete the prefs – and Disk Utility to repair the permissions [log below].

The application is still not opening.

Any other ideas? Do I have to reinstall FC Studio?

    Repair it again and again.

Are you getting a crash report? Run it through Crash Analyzer.

Did you upgrade your OS or software? What’s changed? What computer? What drives? How’s everything connected?

When exactly in the launch process does it fail? Watch the splash screen.

    All the best,

    Tom

    Hi Tom,

    Thanks again,

I’ll repair permissions again, as you suggested, but to answer your
question, I’m running FCP 6.0.6 on OSX 10.5.6.

I haven’t upgraded FCP or OS X in ages.
My drives are daisy chained via Fire Wire [except for one USB Drive that I reformatted earlier today as Mac OS Extended].

When I launch FCP from the Application folder, I’m not even getting a splash screen or a crash error. When I click that icon I get that faded zoom thing that flies out of the icon, but after that I get nothing. Nada.

    Thanks again,

    W

    Hi,

Me again, I’m wondering if I should use FCS Remover the remove the whole Studio package and then reinstall?

I’m a little wary of doing that in case it messes up any plug-ins or updates, and also if I’m missing a serial number somewhere –
or am I being too over cautious?

    Thanks,

    W

You probably need to do a full uninstall and reinstall of the suite.

    Hi Tom & Co.

So I thought I’d feedback to let you know how my saga ended.

I took your advice, Tom, and reinstalled FCS.

Then, when I relaunced FCP I finally got a splash screen, and I noticed it was trying to read a program/plugin called, “iZotope” which is an audio correction program.

In fact, it’s a stand-alone program that sholdn’t have anything to do with FCP, so it didn’t even cross my mind when I was trying to think what I could have downloaded that would have caused FCP to cease to work.

So now I’ve thankfully got FC Studio back up and running and am about to see what kinds of havoc I’ve wrought with my plugins and other settings.

So, a word to the wise, beware of the “iZotope”.

    Thanks again for the help,

    Wayne
