Yet another system ? for FCP and DVCPROHD
Well I have spent hours going thru all the posts and not to mention phone calls to various vendors and I think I am more confused now then when I started this venture into the High Def Realm. Yea I know, Uh Oh.
Sorry, if this post rambles and also if I posted in wrong place. This seemed like a logical choice, since all the smart people were in here.
Well since change is scary I have avoided HD like it was a bird in China. Well I cannot avoid it anymore because an HD job was dropped on our laps as if it were dropped from a bird in China. Ok enough Bird Flu jokes. So I have to bite the bullet and set-up yet another system.
Here is my issue.
This job has 40-50 hours of Varicam footage that has already been captured using FCP 5 and for some odd reason they captured it as DVCPro 50. From what I read in previous posts it seems that they should have used the AJ-HD 1200 and captured it as native HD and went to town. But that’s nor here nor there. So my two questions are this.
1. Should I have them recapture the footage as Native HD or should we just edit the DVCPro-50 footage and then just recapture when they go “Online”. Yea, Dead term I know.
2. Depending on what choice we do, how should I set up a new system. This system does not have to handle uncompressed HD at this time but it would be nice to add those upgrades at a later time. Thru my limited knowledge this is what I came up with for the NativeHD.
QUAD G5 2.5GHZ 2.5 GB RAM, 250GB
NVIDIA QUADRO FX4500
23″ CINEMA HD DISPLAY- For Desktop
27″ WIDESCREEN LCD HDTV- Can I hook this up to the second DVI slot on the Quadro to view playback?
For storage could we just use the drives that they capture it to.For the current DVCPRO-50 footage that they have couldn’t I just run that on any G5 with FCP 5. Also what would be needed to watch playback.
I currently am working on a
G4 D1.25, 1.25 Ram, Cinewave 4.6 with the Pro Digital BOB.
Also have 17″ Powerbook, but would prefer not to have to use that.
And for jokes I have a really big paper weight also known as a Discreet *edit 5.0 system.Thank you for any advice you might have.
