  • Yet another alpha channel question…

I have read alot of the posts regarding problems exporting alpha channels and importing them into after effects…

Right now its very basic… (by the way I am using version 11.5)
I just have a cube – nothing else – and I want to export it with an alpha channel and put the cube on top of another clip in after effects.

    Here’s what I do exactly!

Go to render settings – save tab

    Choose quicktime movie

Choose the ANIMATION compression, and millions of colors +

    Check alpha channel

    Go to “MAKE PREVIEW”

In options I ensure that the ANIMATION compression and millions of colors + is indeed selected

    Then I hit ok.

Then it renders out and I place the file into After Effects – and I dont even get to choose how after effects should handle the file. I cannot even go to “interpret footage” and change the settings of the alpha, because its greyed out.

    What am I doing wrong?????

Is there some secret way of rendering when its alpha or whats code I have to break!

    I am going insane!

    I would appreciate any ideas!

    Thanks in advance

There was recently a post about this EXACT thing. I will save you the time of having to look for it:

Make Preview does not render your project, it makes a preview….so it does not include the alpha.

You need to render to picture viewer to render it out.

    Hope that helps.
