We had to shut down our Apple Xserve to replace a UPS in the studio.

After boot up, the unit powers up with the folder icon.

I’ve tried every old trick in the book and still no OS.

The closest thing to an OS was the cursor and you can actually move it.

    Has anyone experienced this?

It’s an old Xserve Intel the last of its kind running 10.6.5 Server.

use an old mac pro as the new server.

Or simply build a new boot drive with OS X Server. It’s 20 bucks.
