I have an ATA Xserve raid currently with 4 drives striped across two channels creating a 2 TB raid 0. No problems so far (knock on wood). My limited testing leads me to believe this could support HD.

Does anyone know how many drives I’d need in a raid-5 configuration to support HD? I’d like something safer than raid-0 but fast enough to eventually support HD. Or would another raid configuration provide the performance and security I’m looking for?

The Media 100 configuration guide suggest 14 drives for raid-5. I was hoping to get by with fewer so I’d have money left over for spare drive or two.

Thanks for any insights you can provide.

We have 14 HDs configurations in our Media 100 HD and our Final Cut with Cinewave HD. We tested with 8 drives in RAID5 but the data transfer was 110 MB/s, not enough to work in HD. I recommend the 14 drives in your Xserve Raid.

    Thanks Drollo.
