XSAN to MetaSAN
Hi Folks,
I’m a 3 seat (4 with server) XSAN user with a 5.6TB XRAID and 2gb FibreChannel network who is looking to move to something new, but trying to maximize the value of what I’ve already got. Thanks to all of the great info here, I have a pretty good idea of what I need to do. I’m going to go with a MetaSAN system which will allow me to still use my XRAID, use more of it, in fact, and be able to get rid of my metadata server, thus opening up one more set of fibre ports on my SANbox.
My question is, now I want to add more storage to my network. What drives do I go with? I’ve checked out a Promise, and that looks good, but very $$ Things like the HDOne from CalDigit look great, but I don’t see any fibre in there. And I wouldn’t want much less than 12TB, methinks. Also, what kind of transfer rates over a 2gb system should I see assuming I got some bitchin’ fast 300-400mb/s hard drive? Right now we are pretty solidly in the ProRes(HQ) world, but we got RED this summer, and we’d love the option of working a bit higher up.
Thanks all!!
