We have XSAN here at work so I took the first step with the FCPX update and found the XSAN and it mounted.

That was if I chose the root directory of the XSAN. It seems that Steve Martin said in a live cast that you could put events in a folder or anywhere on the XSAN but it doesn’t appear to be true, or I mis-heard. I know that on local disks its normal that events can only be put at the root directory of a hard drive. I had hoped that each editor could put their own events inside their work folder of the XSAN.

At the root of the XSAN, though, it works as advertised.

You can put the events/projects to any folder on XSAN. From FCPX choose FILE -> ADD SAN LOCATION. To have this to working XSAN has to be mounted directly with fiber not through AFP etc..

Thank you for that. When I attempt to put events on my folder within the XSAN I get an alert that says something to the effect that another user (null) has that location, but it’ll take the root of the XSAN. I’m connected through an Apple Fibre Card, but I don’t know if the protocol is Fibre Channel Protocol. I’m ignorant of this protocol and connection method, so pardon my ignorance. Of course, according to the document you linked, I can’t take the root of the XSAN or it’ll lock out other users to the XSAN if I understand it correctly.

It sounds like there might be a permissions mismatch for the folder you attempted to connect to. If you create a folder at the root of the Xsan volume, then try to add it as a location, does that work?

FYI, Fibre Channel Protocol is inherent in an Xsan connection. You don’t need to know anything about it to use it.
