Xpress Pro, Quicktimes, & a black bar
Normally when I export sequences from the timeline I do so as a Quicktime Reference Movie and then compress either in Sorenson or in Quicktime Pro. A client has asked for Quicktimes in the “DV/DVCPro-NTSC” format. When I do my normal routine and compress in Quicktime Pro (in the DV/DVCPro-NTSC setting) from a QT Reference Movie, the result is horrible and looks like several generations down VHS. If I export directly from the Avid timeline as a Quicktime Movie in the “DV/DVCPro-NTSC” format, the result looks great but I get a horizontal black bar across the top of the frame.
I have tried settings variations all w/in 720×480 but so far have not been able to get rid of the bar. The only way I can be rid of it is by setting my Avid Export As setting at 720×470 and checking “Crop/Pad” and leaving the customized QT setting at 720×480. This is a non-optimal workaround.
It’s strange because when I compress from a QT Reference Movie, the black bar is not there…it’s only there when I export directly from the Avid timeline. Any ideas on what’s going on and how to rid myself of the “black bar” without having to tell Avid to make it 720×470 export?
