Four questions regarding capturing via Firewire for Xpress Pro 4.8.1 on a G5 (10.4.2) with a Panasonic AG-DVX100AP (miniDV 29.97 NDF). If you can answer any, I’d appreciate it.

    1. During fast forward and rewind in the capture tool, I see some “artifacting” in the composer window – which is monitoring what is coming in from tape. Not just square pixelation, which is standard for DV, by gray/white “large specs” throughout the frame. This is not a problem during capture – the footage is fine – only during FF and REW in the capture tool.

Is this normal? Advice? I am used to using a DV deck – is this normal for digitizing from a camera?

    2. There two type of camera firewire cables – 1. 9pin to 4pin (camera end) or 2. 6pin to 4pin(camera end). The first is the FW800 plug, the second the FW400 plug. Any difference or advantage disadvantage to either when digitizing DV? (If I’m correct, both have the same transfer speed of up to 400Mbps.)

    3. When in the capture tool, I hit “L” repeatedly to increase FF speed (or “J” for REW). When I hit J or L 3 or 4 times, the capture tool goes into stop mode. Also, when I hit J/L 3 or 4 times, the capture tool become inactive and my composer window becomes active and I find myself FFing through my sequence. I read my question, and it sound like beginner nonsense, however if you have real advice, I’d appreciate it.

    4. OHCI – just another name for Firewire in terms of capturing or no?

    Thank you very much,

    Mike.
