  • XML work-around not working for 5.1.1 to 5.0.4 – HELP!

Posted by Issimo on August 6, 2006 at 12:32 am

I have used the XML work-around with FCP 5 to 4.5 with XML version 1. I have upgraded a Dual 1.8 GHz G5 to FCP 5.1 and exported an XML to a Dual G5 2.7 GHz with FCP 5.0.4. When I try to import the XML file, I get this message:

“XML Translation was aborted due to a critial error.”

I have tried exporting just the sequence and the entire project file as XML, but neither work. I have tried XML version 1 and 2.

Do you have any suggestions? Your help is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,

    issimo

Pay the $49.00 and upgrade your target system to 5.1.1. The time, effort and confusion created by these work arounds simply aren’t worth it.

    Mark,

Advice well taken- upgrading all the stations will eliminate the problem.

But I’m hoping for a fix while I wait as my install DVD’s are mailed and the upgrade is mailed back. I looked for an immediate download, but no luck – I have to rely on snail mail.

In the meantime, I’m trying to get a project off of the station running 5.1.1 to the more powerful station running 5.0.4. An edit assistant has done a rough edit and now we can’t transfer it over.

With a looming deadline, I’m still all ears for short-term solutions.

    Thank you,

    issimo

Re-do the rough edit from scratch? Sure it is time-cosuming, but you’d have been done by now instead of fighting the XML thing.

One option would be to bot your faster machine from the HD of the slower one.

Ether physicaly swap drives (probably the best option) ot put the slower one in target mode (restart it holding down the F key) conect the 2 computers with firewire and then restart the faster one holding down the option key and it will let you choose which Hard drive to boot from.

However physicaly swaping drives will work much better and sence both systems are G5’s there the drives are both SATA

    I hope this helps
