So I’m trying to import a FCP 5 project t my FCP 4.5 via XML…it’s worked fine before – XML version 2 – but we’ve tried 3 times now and it keeps coming up with critical errors. The first two times it was getting hung up on errors exporting the still images, so I just took those outta the file and now it has an error with the master file itself, the master xml file that is.
The file is called “CENTENNIAL RIDE_XML.xml” and the only error that it gives me is:

    Tue, Oct 31, 2006, 8:50 PM – Errors Found Importing CENTENNIAL RIDE_XML.xml
Required key “name” not found for URL file definition( line 3 )

Like I said, I’ve done this XML thing before, but with one different computer (the computer that made the xml – both times I was trying to bring it onro my personal computer)

but I’m stuck for ideas…anyone have a clue what might be going on?

Err, I thought 4.5 only dealt with XML V.1.

Yeah, thought so, this from Nick Meyers on Ken Stone’s FCP site…

“Then it gives you an option for the XML format you wish to use.
There’s a choice between Apple XML Interchange Format, version 1, and Apple XML Interchange Format, version 2, with Version 2 being the default.
FCP 4.5 only deals with version 1, so to export your FC5 project for FCP4.5, choose Version 1.

The last item in the window is the option to Include Master Clips Outside Selection
That’s greyed out in my first example, as I had selected the entire Project, so there are no master clips outside of my selection.

You might use this option if you only selected a sequence for export, and thought you might as well get all the rushes along with it.”

shoot – that’s my mistake – we did export it as XML v. 1 … not 2 as I stated.

And everything was checked off when we exported.
